The Zambia Police Service says it has stepped up investigations on the suspected United Party for National Development(UPND) cadres who damaged government vehicles and held hostage government officials including journalists in Bweengwa constituency over the weekend.

The incidence happened soon after President Edgar Lungu’s rally in Bweengwa constituency in Monze district in Southern province.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Godwin Phiri said investigations regarding the incident are progressing well.

He said this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka today that the public will be informed of the outcome of the investigation soon.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today Commissioner Phiri said police were facing some challenges in identifying the culprits because the incidence happened during night time.

Mr Phiri said police is working round the clock to ensure that the law breakers are apprehended and face the wrath of the law.

He pointed out that such cases require thorough investigations considering the circumstance in which it happened and added that police will not rest until the culprits are arrested.

On Sunday, Police managed to rescue government officers, including a ZANIS crew, that were held hostage in Bweengwa area in Monze district by suspected opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres.

  1. If only you Mr Lungu & Mr IG would step up the investigation on your terrorist that terrorized Ndola airport. Please be rational.

  2. The simon mwansa KA double pwe international airport attack happened in broad daylight, even the registration plates on those vehicles in the media was visible, mr IG why not start with something right on your doorsteps than starting to look for night vision goggles for bweengwa individuos accusados falsamente.

  3. Where was this guy trained. He surely can come here to tell us he has a challenge because the incidence was in the night.
Ok, you can at least tell us how many people were abducted, where they were held, the state in which they were found, are they receiving post trauma counselling. These are the basics any cop worth the uniform would first address.

  4. Please just show us even one photo of the damage caused or the group that was detained by the so called cadres. Are we made to believe no a single civil servant or any other person in the group had a phone with a camera to get even one photo? I now smell a rat in the whole thing.

  5. Money spent on his two nights out with his wife in that Italian hotel is enough to turn same dilapidated school into a wonder, one thing this president forgets is that HH is a respected headman for one of the villages, it’s always important when ever you visit any village to respect elders of that particular village, why choose bweengwa of the places in southern province?leaving over populated places in province, what kind of campaign strategy is this where you avoid masses of registered voters in densely populated regions? What was chagwa’s aim?
