The young African Leaders Initiative says the continued closure of UNZA and CBU is a cost to the country and parents.

Speaking in an interview YALI President Andrew Ntewewe said government has continued paying lecturers and researchers at the two Universities well students are not learning making the closure of the institutions a cost to the people of Zambia.

He called on Higher Education Minister Micheal Kaingu to quickly engage stakeholders with a view of reopening the institutions without further delays saying the country should no be held at ransom because of his inability to resolve concerns of students at the two Universities.

“Our challenge to Dr Kaingu is that he must immediately engage with stakeholders with the view of reopening the two Universities because his continued action of closing the universities is having a very negative effect on the students and the country as whole. What is happening is that it a huge cost to the government to have the Universities closed because the government is paying lecturers, its paying researchers, the government is including huge huge expenses while students are not learning. The whole country should not be held at ransom because of his incompetence.” he said.

Mr Ntewewe also said stakeholders had lost confidence in Mr Kaingu as he has time and again failed to deal with challenges facing the universities amicably but has resorted to closing the institutions something he said is detrimental to the developmental aspirations of the country.

He said the President should step in and give guidance in resolving the issues as the challenges continue to reappear every year.

He added that the continued closure of the Universities was a huge inconvenience to the parents and people paying for themselves as they are now made to prolong their stay in schools something he said would effectively add to their expenses.

  1. Kaingu is a hpeless failure. Little wonder he cant manage his daughter and you expect him to manage universities! What a country!

  2. The Question for Ntewewe is Who has made the govt to lose such money? What happens during holidays and leave doesnt the govt lose such money? The problem with prophets of doom is that you want confusion to gain political milage. Tell students to apologiz and probably denounce their funders it will work sir.

    • Mwaice Ntewewe who tells you when the Universities are closed, lecturers do not work? Do you not know that there are the masters , distance education and medical degree programmes still running?

  3. If you are coming from responsible homes you will agree with me that we want through such punishments when you failed to meet certain obligations as a child. Students want meal allowance and govt will open when we raise money for their allowances. You get a loan buy a car and political sponsored students damage it. No Ntewewe think twice

    • You PF cadres be warned that the closure of UNZA and CBU will work against Lungu. You have given enough time for students to decampaing Lungu no assignments meaning more time for politics. Now Kaponyas are important than University students we shall teach Lungu a lesson.Dont worry we shall open UNZA and CBU after 11th Augast,2016 after escorting Lungu back to Chawama.

  4. Students forced govt to close the unis not the other way around. Should govt make a mistake of reopening them without eliminating the cause which lead to their closure I can assure you that these criminals and their sponsors Upnd will riot again soon.

    • My bro, its the other way round. Broke Govt caused UNZA and CBU to close. If students had been paid their allowances on time in December, 2015, do you think they would have rioted? The reason for this closure is simply that Govt is broke. There is no money anywhere and even Govt institutions like ECZ and even Ministries have not been funded since November, 2015. The entire Govt system is rundown bro.

  5. Let those filth colleges masquerading as universities remain closed until 2017 so that those climinals masquerading as students learn a lesson. If anything government needs to expel all of them and engage new students who will start as freshers

    • Drastic situations need drastic measures. In order to heal the boil, you have to squeeze it. of course it will pain but eventually it will be healed.

So goes with the conditions at the 2 public universities. Something has to be done which will leave the students perplexed so that they start using their brains to think.

  6. Govt is not broke@Kambwili these criminals were paid the allowances only a balance of k1,200 was remaining which they were promised to be paid by now.Let them learn a lesson so that next time they behave like human beings and not like animals.

  7. ..students being technocrats themselves are supposed to know better before reacting unration…then there is nothing better…you close its a cost….you keep them its a risk to general public…if it was possible, the lot (student) deserve to be kept in places like Robben island otherwise let the govt keep their side of bargain as per schedule and non of all the fracas shall occur,,,,

  8. ZAMBIA HAS ABSOLUTELY NO LEADERSHIP. WE ARE A COUNTRY THAT IS LOST INTO OBLIVION! WE HAVE ALLOWED ONLY A FEW SELF PEOPLE MASQUERADING AS OUR LEADERS TO INTIMIDATE THE WHOLE COUNTRY AND DENY US OF OUR OPPORTUNITY TO THRIVE AS A NATION THRU EFFECTIVE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE COUNTRY. INDEED CLOSING THESE TWO STATE-RUN UNIVERSITIES IS A HUGE COST TO OUR NATION. I HAVE ALWAYS REITERATED MY OBSERVATION THAT LUNGU DOES NOT LOVE US THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE, RATHER HE ONLY LOVES THE WEALTH IN ZAMBIA. SUCH AN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD BE CHASED AWAY FROM STATE HOUSE ON AUGUST 11.

  9. Blame the students. That is easy. How about actually Payong staff on time as they work. How about coughing up when the money is needed? Why wait until the boil bursts before lancing it? Maybe the universities are closed as a delay tactic because you have found other uses for the finances. I don’t know. I just think the tyres burning and the craziness runs rampant after you fail to deliver. This in no way excuses them but at the moment the after effect of your actions is your excuse. Blame the students. Where is the money? Pray tell. Enquiringly minds want to know if you have your act together or you are now fudging for your own reasons. Students can be given community based assignments to deal with their free time but the government
Is running out of excuses for not paying lecturers or…

  10. Andrew Ntewene – what kind of analysis is that? Lectures are to be paid weather students are learning or not!!! You are truly a young African…

  11. UPND stuck now. No where to take the Violence. They are now organizing fake Parents who do not have Children at Universities to cause confusion. The momentum which they thought they had on the Copperbelt has Fizzled out. Defeat is staring in their faces. The Spear Wielding, Axe Clad and Panga Donned Chuudu Chaitwa Tribalists are now in despair. August 11, 2016 ECL Nafuti Nafuti.

  12. Bring him or her love spells from papaallim call +27635808644
The Truth is, This is a very special place, especially made to bring back your love who is with some one else

  13. How about starting with stopping the sponsoring of students and paying cardres to pose as students, so that they can cause confusion, by some political parties? All this is GBM’s way of trying to win votes. He likes buying and begging people to pose with him. Its cheap politics. It wont work.

Anyway, they students have already realised that they were just being used by hungry for power, losers and very bitter politicians. I am sure the listening Gov with reconsider. Edgar for Jesus
