Jericho Shinde slams Zambia legends team selection

Share

Ex-Nkana and Zambia international midfielder Jericho “Russian Tanker” Shinde has fumed after being left out of the Zambia legends team that has been invited to Zimbabwe for a legends football tournament.

Some players coaches Fred Mwila and Dickson Makwaza named in the Zambia legends team that left for Zimbabwe on Thursday by road
includes Laughter Chilembi, Sydney Mambwe, Kabamba Kalande, Hilary Makasa and Joe Bwalya.

In an interview in Kitwe, Shinde, 56, said he deserves to be in the Zambia legends squad because he played in the famous KK 11 team.

“It is an insult that I have been left out of that squad because I played in the KK 11 team. If they are calling the team KK 11 or Zambia legends where is Peter Kaumba, Abraham Nkole, Fredrick Kashimoto?”

“What criteria did they use to select players for this trip to Zimbabwe? I need an explanation as to why each time they are recognizing KK 11 stars some people are left out,” he said.

“I will now seek the indulgence of the the Minister of Sports on this matter. Even last year they left us out of the KK 11 team that played
a match to mark Independence,” Shinde said.

The Zambia legends will play two games in Zimbabwe with the first one coming on Friday and the last one on Sunday.

    • Jericho Shinde is right. He was a good player and a marvel to watch. There’s so much for our soccer legend to be included in various activities that enhance the sport in our country. Looking at the age of some of the players called up and what their standard of play used to be, it is clear that the word LEGEND is not being used in the way I understand it.

    • Jericho Shinde was the best midfielder during his days with the KK11. He deserves to be included! The best player ever to have worn the no. 6 jersey in Zambian colours!

    • Which of the following LEGENDS are still alive?
      1. Bernard Chanda
      2. Jani Simulambo
      3. Milton Muke
      4. Evans Katebe
      5. Emment Kapengwe
      7. Johnstone Bwalya
      8. Lucky Msiska
      9. Kapela Katumpa
      10. Goita Kituka

  1. Little things that matter indeed. Perhaps in future there should be midlands vs copperbelt legends game from which to finally select the Zambian legends team. Definitely it feels bad to feel left out!

    • @Umwina Nkana you may be too young to know that there were only one or two teams in Lusaka (or what was called Midlands) and Jericho is right! HE WAS A LEGEND AT BOTH NKANA AND KK11

  2. i agree with ba shinde, if its joe bwalya young brother to kalusha then the choosing is incorrect. he played for chipolopolo. he was taken into the national team after the gabon disaster, so why leave you ba shinde and pick a toddler.

    • Ba Jericho has a genuine grievance but please don’t spoil it by singling out names speculatively. Let’s just advocate for a fairer and more transparent selection process in future. These are issues of public interest!

  3. This is the second time Shinde has been left out, most probably due to the differences he had with kalu in the playing days. Shinde did a lot for Zambia and should not be disrespected like this. I personally never liked him in his playing days because he tormented my team a lot but this about honoring national heroes and not friends

    • Jericho is right, very good midfielder among the likes of Makinka(the late), but since Shinde is still alive, he deserves a place. HOWEVER, ba Jericho is a drunkard mwebantu. I doubt if he can play football today considering his age.

  4. If you don’t know Jericho Shinde then definitely you are a toddler. He is definitely a soccer legend in Zambia and deserves to be there. So are the names he has mentioned.

  5. @ umwina nkana. to justify an argument one must provide facts and be straight to the point. this is the reason why joe bwalya has been singled out. joe is much younger to be included in the list of the KK11. i know what am talking about, joe is in the mid 40s. there are there who qualify many of them out there. i have nothing against joe but against pipo who put him there . they are very unfair to the young man. mulefwaya ukumukotesha umulumendo? efyo ndekana ifi

  6. I agree with J Shinde. When did Joe Bwalya, Hillary Makasa become legends? These were just ordinary Chipolopolo players who never even featured for the KK 11.

  7. The “Russian Tanker” was as mighty as the biblical walls of Jericho, if legend was ever to be personified, ba Shinde would be that person. Watched him at Dag in Ndola, he was massive, true No.6. Too bad be Liwewe is no more, he would have been the best to name the KK11 Legends.

  8. If they are calling the team KK 11 or Zambia legends where is Peter Kaumba, Abraham Nkole, Fredrick Kashimoto?”
    The “Russian Tanker” is right.

  9. Leaving Jericho Shinde from the Zambia legends side would be like leaving Peter Njobvu or Norman Mapeza from the Zimbabwe side. Honestly a neutral panel must be used going forward to select the surviving legends team.

  10. I missed this, surely it was indeed sad and unfair on the part of Ba Shinde to have been left on that list. I really feel for you Russian Tanker of all time. The line up that beat cameroun 4-1 at Indepence Stadium in April 1985.
1.David Efford Chabala, 2. Laban Chishala, 3. Kapambwe Mulenga,4. John Butcher Mwanza,5. Jones Chilengi,6. Jericho Shinde, 7. Lucky Muchofe Msiska,8. Aaron Njovu, 9. Big Mike Chabala, 10. jack Black Pele Chanda, 11. Great Kalu

  11. Lets respect our legends before they die. What criteria did they use to leave abe Jericho from a list of legends? Are we being honest to ourselves or we are just kidding? That man(Jericho)was a marvel to watch.Let us not throw our pride out because of being myopic.Even if the man cannot play because of tired legs, lets be magnanimous enough to appreciate his contribution to national team.It is a mockery of status of legendary to leave out people like Jericho.

  12. Leaving out Shinde and picking Joe Bwalya and Makasa is an insult to the nation. Only a person who didnt watch him can do that.

  13. need to know when is the game in Zimbabwe? Mr. Shinde must fly to Herara to join his friends.
If you do not Jericho shinde then you are a new person in Zambian football.
I personally went to the stadium because of him.
    Let’s fly him to Zimbabwe………

  14. It is time for Kalu to go. Fyonse ni Corruption. Mr. J. Shinde is real legend in Zambian Football. Joe Bwalya ali li pulanga (ikula). The way he went for professional football is also questionable. Ba Circle Brugge of Belgium were Kalusha was playing came to Zambia for some friendly games. They played the Zambia National team and spotted Debby Makinka. After the request of Makinka Kalu picked his brother in place of Makinka and said Joe was better than Makinka. Foolish Kalusha cos his jealous for Debby and other Zambian players. The whole thing is They never asked for Joe Bwalya but for Makinka who was left to ware that no. 6 jersey by Jericho “Tanker” Shine at the National Team.

  15. Kalusha deserves to go. Hes such a corrupt chap. How can he surely pick his brother Joe a kula and leave out Jeriko Shinde? Who doesnt know Shinde? Kalusha’ s jealous is just too much. 2 him everything ni jealous and corruption. Time for Kamanga now

  16. This was a serious oversight on that of the organizers to leave Ba shinde and my friends like Chilembi,Sydney and other players of the late ninenties.
We learn to put human elements aside when it comes to national issues and allow those who deserve it
