PARAMOUNT Chief Chitimukulu Kanyanta Manga II has cautioned chiefs against making political statements that may bring his name into disrepute.

And the Bemba Royal Establishment (BRE) has dethroned the current Chief Mumpolokoso and replaced him with his elder brother Mumbi.

During the Ilamfya Bemba Council meeting held at Chitimukulu’s palace here yesterday, the Bemba chiefs resolved that there should only be one person to speak on behalf of the royal establishment.

“Politics may divide us, so we should be very careful in making statements because the buck stops on the Mwinelubemba,” Chitimukulu said.

The traditional leaders also resolved that all chiefs making statements to the media should do so in their personal capacity.

“Politics may divide us, so we should be very careful in making statements because the buck stops on the Mwinelubemba,” Chitimukulu said.

Chief Chimba, who heads the Bashilubemba, said he has nothing to do with the current Chief Mumpolokoso and that according to the new constitution; the establishment has the authority to appoint its chiefs.

He said that the BRE will never go back on its decisions.

And the BRE said it does not recognise Chief Chimbuka whose name is Crimson Mwila and Chief Chewe born as Chileshe Yulaya as they were just appointed by the government without following their family tree.

“The poverty levels are very high in the Bembaland and we are bearing more children because people do not have anything to do.”

Meanwhile, the Mwinelubemba says he will be making more trips to source funds from overseas for projects in Bembaland.

“We need to identify more land to venture into biofuel production. As the Bembas we need to bring development to our area and find other sources of money,” he said.

He urged the council to come up with good project proposals that are viable and beneficial to the communities.

“The poverty levels are very high in the Bembaland and we are bearing more children because people do not have anything to do. I will travel a lot to try and find investors so that we raise the living standards of our people,” he said.

”We will build the Ulubemba Academy that will admit our girls and boys that have the best results from across the Bemba chiefdoms so as to improve the leadership qualities among our young people,” he said

The Chitimukulu also said the royal establishment will build the Ulubemba Academy that will admit the best pupils from across the Bembaland so as to raise the education standards in the area.

”We will build the Ulubemba Academy that will admit our girls and boys that have the best results from across the Bemba chiefdoms so as to improve the leadership qualities among our young people,” he said.

The Mwinelubemba has since called for unity in the area to ensure that all that has been planned is achieved.

“We need stability in our chiefdoms because there are a lot of forces that are bringing division in the Bembaland,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Bemba chiefs from Muchinga and Northern Province.

    • He will travel a lot to solicit for developmental funds in Bembaland which has been neglected and has high poverty levels.

This sounds like a no confidence vote in the ability of the central government to perform its functions. This constitution may have created “governments within governments”.. other governments led by traditional chiefs.

    • In other words, the Chitimukulu is saying that, Chief Mukenge was right about being sent to check on GBM, WITHOUT Making a statement which could be politically inclined.
Therefore to this divisions in politics, the traditional leaders should not sludge themselves publicly & politically.
In end, Sosala agrees to voting OUT Pathetic Failures (PF) via the THROAT. On 11th August, go for the jugular of visionless PF BANDITS by democratically drilling them out of the leadership premise!
No laptops for Chief Chiti, but going for the throats of inept PF.
      Vote throaty wisely.

    • I will not be surprised if Sosala Chitimukulu filed for nomination for Zambian president for August 11th. He is more political than any chief ever.

    • Say what you like about the Bembas, but I bet you to find another chief in Zambia to equal the intellect and wisdom of this Bemba paramount chief. Do let me know once you have a name and point me to some of their work.

  1. This is critical so government has not developed the Bemba land and the chief wants to mobilise resources to develop his area and one wonders which area has been developed by this government?

    • What if it was chief Monze writing about Tongaland, nga batukwa…. the PF would have been on parliament and on TV screaming and calling HH names.

  2. In short, he is saying Government is doing nothing for bashilubemba. The Chief sounds bitter in my view, he feels the Government is not doing enough for him. The Chief is expecting handouts from Government. Go and source for your funds abroad, who cares.

  3. Politicians are very corrupt. It’s high time we try entrusting wise chiefs like this one with euro bonds.

Whilst Politicians are closing Universities, Chiefs are thinking of building theirs to foster development in their areas. Has Politics benefited many or just enriched a few?

  4. TWAKUNKULA MWENFUMU. THIS IS HOW AND WHAT CHIEFS ARE SUPPOSE TO DO AND BE. I RESPECT YOUR ROYAL HIGHNESS ON THIS MATTER. MOST COUNCILS ARE FOND OF SUCKING FROM THE PEOPLE WITHOUT DOING RIGHT THINGS AND THIS IS AN EYE OPENER TO ALL BIG CHIEFS. THIS PF GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED US COMPLETELY BECAUSE WE ALL RELY UPON THEM.

  5. @Sudan,Misango Yaba Chaimani,Lazi etal, the article he did not say that government is not developing the area! The chief wants to be proactive by not leaving development efforts to govt alone. What the chief is saying is that he is also a leader and must take part by leading his own people to realize that the onus to develop their land is on them. Just some months ago,Chief Inyambo received some funds from govt to support a community project in his area and that is similar to what Chitimukulu wishes to see in his Chiefdom. When he says politicians should speak in their personal capacity,he is actually warning those who implied that a visit to GBM in cells was inspired by him when actually not!!Good think but identify more projects than just biofuels.

  6. Bembas, like other tribes that traditionaly did not know Agriculture, must learn to Farm. That’s all. That’s what will kill the poverty. Tribes that know farming are not talking of starvation at those levels. How can chiefs oso sink so low to start thinking “investors”? This is the DULL approach that politicians have made Zambians bliv. How can we as a pipo, as a country, live our lives everyday thinking and believing that we can not stand up and do things for ourselves. How can we fold our hands and just say “investors” will come. From where? To do what? For whom? Do you expect other pipo to come from their own countries & come do things for you? Wake up Zambians. We have to do things ourselves. The 1st Industry is Agriculture. Other Industries develop from there. What ve…

    • @Wilz,which tribes don’t know agriculture in Zambia?? Our traditional lives in Zambia are based on subsistence agriculture so what do you mean? Different regions know farming to varying levels of productivity and commercialization. Since when did you hear of relief food being sent to Kasama? What we need is to move people towards commercial oriented agriculture to reduce poverty. Other provinces may appear more productive bcoz they use oxen to plough but for a long time heavy rainfall areas were tse-tse infested hence northern parts of Zambia had no culture to keep cattle and concentrated on growing cassava and millet. We need to mechanise and develop the livestock sector almost countrywide!

  7. Well spoken Mwinelubemba. As for you UPND cadres, please don’t think for the MWine Lubemba, he has many times more intellect than all UPND leaders combined and he can take care of himself and his people without your filthy comments.

    • U call urself wise wen u are the exact opposite, only a stinking mouse lik u can post filthy comments and impose it on othas

  8. ”We will build the Ulubemba Academy that will admit our girls and boys that have the best results from across the Bemba chiefdoms so as to improve the leadership qualities among our young people,” Is the Ulubemba academy going to admit young people from other tribes? Doesn’t sound like it and I sincerely hope am wrong on this one otherwise we may be promoting ethnicity and in any case how are you going to judge who is a true Bemba with all the intermarriages? My wife is Bemba, I am not, my kids are “half casts”. Do they qualify?

    • I also have the same questions. Is the Paramount Chief saying that the academy will be exclusively for Bembas — Bemba students and Bemba teachers? This is clear discrimination based on tribe. Does the Zambian constitution allow it? Or is it a question of anything goes as long as it is done by the Bembas? Let us wait and see.

    • I agree with you, there is something wrong here, I am forced to believe this statement did not come from him. If it did then he is becoming weird and I am just watching and waiting.

  9. @10, yes your children do qualify certainly. As for inclusion of other tribes in the academy, those are details that can be discussed once the idea is developed. Otherwise it is a brilliant idea.

  10. He is a wise Paramount Chief who does not want chiefs to engage in active politics. The one who visited some indisciplined fellow in prison did it on his own because he was not sent. The point is……work with the legitimate govt of the day and not with small tribal/regional parties with no experience of how govt works.

  11. The chief is saying that you do not have to sit on your back side waiting for government to do things for you. Simple.

  12. The problem is that we have all became politician in Zambia, and there is too much hate,no one in this world as achieved everything that they wanted to achieve but most people have tried, only Jesus achieved everything. For some of us that started working in the MMD time in sure most of u recall that the salaries were too poor more especially with us who work in the private sector, the coming of the minimum wage improved our lifes better than wat we got in the MMD,for me I ll appreciate the little things that the PF have done, roads, schools, creations of the new district which as created jobs.

  13. Where does this leave Bob Bwembya Luo the current Chief Chibesakunda? He was appointed by the late President, Mr Sata leaving the one the Bisa Establishment chose who is in the family tree. He is the brother to the current Gender Minister, Pro. Nkandu Luo. Am sure his seat is now hot. He has already given out vast chunks of land to his Conman friends.

  14. This is interesting reading. The chief is proposing to build ULUBEMBA ACADEMY where bemba speaking children with high marks will be enrolled. The proposal sounds good but this is how ethnic cleansing start.

We should at all times be careful proposing ideas which tend to align ourselves along tribal lines because the consequences are very gustily to contemplate.

The war in Rwanda was mainly ignited because one tribe was more educated than the other and that created a rift with the other tribe which later led to a civil war which is being referred as genocide.

The idea will be well come if anyone can be allowed to attend the academy regardless of their tribal back ground because we are all Zambians.

    • That is exactly my point in comment 10 above. We should be very careful with seemingly innocent ideas like these which start with am a Bemba chief and am doing this for my Bemba kingdom and will build a Bemba academy where Bemba kids around my kingdom will be educated. To be fair to him he says kids from around the kingdom…this is open to interpretation but kids from the Bemba kingdom can easily mean Bemba kids which is so Unzambian.

  15. Mwafula fye ifyakulandalanda ba shetani mwe mbutuma sha bantu imwe!!! Infumu naisosa fye bwino and everything is clear, nothing political here…

  16. #1.5. Chief Nalubamba of the ila people. A very wise man. I am not making any comparisons here but just wish to point out that most of the chiefs are wiser than your little mind may think.

  17. Am pure bemba but am worried of the thinking of chief. I know him as an intelligent chief who can recognize funny tricks.
Look at this “Meanwhile, the Mwinelubemba says he will be making more trips to source funds from overseas for projects in Bembaland. The Chitimukulu also said the royal establishment will build the Ulubemba Academy that will admit the best pupils from across the Bembaland so as to raise the education standards in the area….” We have Mungwi Secondary for best pupils. What could say was to source funds from overseas to improve standards at this school. To source funds from overseas for projects in Bembaland what is telling us. Does he have information that the government will stop funding projects in Bembaland or he just want to supplement the efforts of the…

  18. That was a very important meeting. Wasn’t GBM’s incarceration part of the Agenda?. I am pretty sure it was and resolutions passed.

  19. The bigger argument here(by implication) is that Zambia should be a federal republic. For me, I laud his attitude of self-reliance than trying to beg for development from an incapable gov’t. Let Zambia be a federal republic and you will see how we develop our areas. That’s why I am part of those who support the independence of Barotseland but as a federal republic of Zambia.

Zambians, let’s vote wisely. Zambia will be torn apart with these incapable leaders we are puting in office. Give Edgar another 5 years, the country will be broken up into three regions.

  20. It is a good idea to train the best minds in leadership. Philosopher Plato at one time advocated for such idea, to have ethical intellectuals who rule for the Common Good. However, it would be better done at national level, if our leaders see through the brilliance of the idea.

  21. The thinking of this Bemba Chief is questionable. Ulubemba Academy, what nonsense is that? The chief is the worst tribalist.

  22. Problem in zed most chiefs are puppets to the government and if chiefs are seen to support a political party believe you me respect for chiefs will be pleaded from their subjects so when politicians seek support from chiefs, chiefs should refer those politicians to the people and no chief should speak to it’s subjects on behalf of a political party

  23. Mobilising people to engage in agriculture and indeed to take responsibility for their lives is one of the cardinal responsibilities of traditional leaders. in old times,in some villages, headmen used to ask each household to show their pit latrine, garbage pit and their field for sustenance. Failure to which they got expelled from the village.Things have changed but we need to get back to basics and promote agriculture using modern methods. I am not sure about his biofuels project when people are failing to have enough food in their homes-why not feed one self first before thinking about these ventures. I agree with @Pakudya,cuito,Lapkeni ,GK.. we need to think national to build leaders not ethnic as he is trying to do. A national approach as @Bee Esi has said is more unifying let govt…

  24. GBM waumfwa from ba Chitimukulu? U POLITICIANS CAN DEVIDE BEMBALAND OR IN SHORT ZAMBIA!!thats how a wise chief talks!!!I have told upnd from time and i gain that bembas including bemba chiefs cannot follow a politician blindly!!UPND CHEATED THEMSELVES THAT GBM WILL BRING THE WHOLE NORTHERN REGION TO UPND!!BUT THAT CANNOT HAPPEN.NORTHERNERS ARE VERY WISE PEOPLE AND NOBODY CAN TELL THEM WHICH PARTY TO VOTE FOR OR NOT!!in 2015 by election,Nevers Mumba and Edith Nawakwi (both Northerners stood) but lost to Edgar Lungu (an easterner) badly in bembaland!!SO WHO IS GBM TO BE GIVEN ALL BEMBA VOTES?DREAMS ON GUYS!!THE FACT IS PF WILL STILL WIN IN NORTHERN ZAMBIA IN 2016 AND BEYOND!!!GO PF GO!!

    • Yeah, but we have trouble in that region. This man left alone will diminish PF votes and any Votes won by UPND is a gain longterm. He clearly has been bought by external foreign parties.

  25. This a Robles for Zambia. We went I to changes on Chiefs, empowering them, only to have bitter twisted Sosala carrying on his revenge even though HE Lungu righted his problem under Sata.

This is a snide troublemaker and the gov’t need to acknowledge there are too many sources of power. It seems bizarre that our land can be used anyway by some chief without so much as discussion with Central gov’t. It’s all wrong. Curtail his travels and insist he directs developments through central gov’t. There is chaos in chieftain rule.

  26. I See nothing wrong with ulubemba accademy and biofuel project in fact we need more of these projects in bembaland. How come you have not castigated barotse university and other institutions in name of barotse yet you castigate anything sounding bemba just because you are inferior to them . Work of Good will cannot be hindered in the name of tribalism , your so called govt have failed to develop ulubemba even after dividing the region into northern and muchinga provinces . If that be the case , this nation is better divided into fedral states so that states like barotse and ulubemba can progress well with development agendas of their regions. It is worth to note that national development has only concentrated to Lusaka and Copperbelt hence Mwinelubemba Chitimukulu cannot be limited to…

  27. The Mwinelubemba is not saying Government is not doing anything, but he is saying the BRE intends to supplement on what the government is doing by sourcing for more money and projects in the Bemba land to uplift the lives of its citizens. Don’t drag the chief in your simple politics like GBM.
