President Lungu says government construct a road to link Nabwalya to Mpika and Eastern Province.

The Republican President , who said this when he met Chief NaBwalya of the Bisa speaking people of Mpika district at his palace , added that the road project will commence after this rain season.

President Lungu said NaBwalya has remained undeveloped because the area is hard to reach especially during the rainy season when roads leading to the area become impassable.

He said he is aware that people in the area face a lot of challenges which will only be solved once the area linked to the rest of the country by a good road.

President Lungu disclosed that works of these road linking NaBwalya to Chipata in Eastern Province have already started while works on the Mpika side will start soon.

He said once finished the road will improve the life of the people because it will result in easier movement of goods and people.

And Chief Nabwalya thanked the president for visiting his chiefdom to appreciate the need for development in the area.

The Chief said president Lungu is the only person he was the power to bring development to NaBwalya.

Chief Nabwalya said he has every confidence that the Patriotic Front will deliver on its promises because of the evident projects it is undertaking throughout the country.

President Lungu was accompanied by PF deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri, Muchinga Province Minister Mwimba Malama, State House Minister Mulenga Sata, and his special assistant for press and public relations Amos Chanda.

The President also attended church service at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in NaBwalya.

And Parish Priest Father Waldemar Potrapeluk said thanked government for providing relief food to the people of the NaBwalya.

He said relief food has gone a long way in alleviating hunger in the area.

President Lungu later addressed a public meeting at NaBwalya Secondary School.

He pledged to electrify and provide mobile phone services to the area.

He however asked for patience as government cannot honour all its promises at once.

President Lungu also commended Staff at NaBwalya Secondary School for their commitment and sacrifice.

He said the teachers have shown patriotism by choosing to work in a remote area like NaBwalya which has no facilities such as roads, electricity and mobile phone services so that children in the area can be educated.

The President appealed to the people of Mpika not to experiment on leadership on voting for another party during the August 11 elections as doing so would reverse the developmental programmes embarked on by the OF government.

President Lungu is in Muchinga Province for a three day working visit.

  1. Please LT, edit your articles! Good news but quite poorly written! This news is however surprising that Nabwalya, which is in Muchinga,in Mpika District has not yet benefited from rural electrification and road construction which other areas have seen and yet PF critics say all development especially infrastructure development is concentrated in Muchinga! This is a PF area but there we are:no road,no electricity even at secondary school,no mobile phones and yet the critics accused Sata who was from Mpika of concentrating on his area but alas not even a road to this area! This is what will cost PF,they neglected their strongholds hoping to appease and win over UPND areas but no success and their strongholds have lost faith and may stay away from voting all together!

    • Governance is not about pleasing only ones stronghold but serving the whole country. Whether they were voted for or not, PF govt have taken development to all parts of Zambia.

    • @Zambia is ours!!
You are on point. This is what I was discussing with my colleagues that the greatest mistake the PF made was to neglect their strongholds and concentrate on UPND strongholds hoping that people in those areas would change but they have failed to win over them. The whole of Northern Province, only two districts ( Kasama 18.3Kms and Mpulungu 9.7Kms) benefited from township roads but they opted to give SP township roads in almost all the districts. Am expecting apathy from PF strongholds coz people are complaining almost on a daily basis about lack of development. Upto now the Mbesuma Bridge has not been constructed and yet money for its construction has been appearing in the yellow book year in year out. Otherwise, expect a lot of apathy. Even REA has been electrifying…

    • conti…… Even REA has been electrifying newly constructed districts in other provinces but have neglected to electrify Nsama district which was the only new district in the whole of NP. There are a lot of things that have not been done right. Katwishi Mayo. I fear for them especially looking at how SP vote and you have apathy in your stronghold.

    • YOU ARE ASKING FOR TOO MUCH FROM LT. EVERY ARTICLE IN EVERY ISSUE HAS PRAMMAR, SPELLING AND EVEN CONCEPTUAL MISTAKES. AS YOU SAID THIS IS A VERY GOOD TOPIC/ARTICLE ESPECIALLY THAT I PERSONALLY HAVE BEEN YEARNING FOR RURAL NEWS FOR DECADES. AND IT IS SO DELIGHTING TO NOTE THAT A LEADER HAS EVEN TRAVEL TO NABWALYA THE PLACE ZAMBIANS HAVE JUST BEEN HEARING ABOUT WHICH, ACCORDING TO WHAT I HEAR HAS A LOT OF TOURISM AND AGRICULTURAL POTENTIAL. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE PRIORITY PLACE FOR SOLAR MILLS.

    • Actually, you didn’t know Sata. He was not ‘from Mpika’. Don’t lie. Sata was from Tanzania. I know his relatives and they are still alive.

  2. wait a minute, come physically to Mpika you will be shocked to learn that actually works on nabwalya have started and believe you me, you will appreciate the amount infrastructure development currently under way in Muchinga.

    • @John Chandwe, have you been to all parts of Zambia to conclude like that? We are not saying other provinces do not deserve development the national cake must be shared equally. But how do you explain something like what 1.2 has laid out? Southern Province is already relatively developed compared to other rural provinces but instead of rationalising on what was more important for each province, they went to give them more roads which were not critical instead of improving Vet services for them and addressing key infrastructure needs in lacking areas as explained by 1.2!! Votes matter that is why PF are always hurting against S.province bcoz they thot they would gain votes by their actions- but no!

    • @wao,we know there is infrastructure development taking place in Muchinga because it is a new province but don’t you think even this road you are talking about should have been nearing completion now than some of roads that were prioritized elsewhere? Go to Luapula and see how they have failed to complete tarring 70km of the pedicle road in five years!! As people from Luapula where PF got 95% of all votes in 2011 without Sata campaigning and see how lowly they have fared in infrastructure development. Then understand the January 2015 apathy and the effect it may have on this election on PF if it continues!

    • @ Zambia is ours!!
Last year, I heard Honourable Kapata talking about shifting the Ministry of Tourism from Lusaka Province to Livingstone and yet we still have the undeveloped Northern Circuit and this is a place with so much beauty. When you open the Yellow book ( Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for Zambia) and go to Loans and Investment Head 20/21 under secretary to the treasury there has been a budgetary allocation ( More than 30 Billion (old) each year) from 2012 to date to do the Lufubu Bridge which is the shortest route to Kasaba bay using Kasama- Mbala rd and yet upto now that bridge has never been constructed but always an allocation for its construction is always there in the yellow book. Can you imagine that it is only NP where the Link Zambia 2000 using pavers hasn’t…

  3. But how can a Chief be called; Nabwalya yet he’s a man? They should change the name to ‘shibwalya’ simple. Little wonder the whole area is lagging behind…

  4. Catholics don’t judge clothes, wat matters is faith, please us catholics tifuna bantu kupulumuka. Ba chimpepe kukonda condemn banzabo.

  5. In science, we measure everything. Go to RDA and obtain statistics on roads that have been upgraded in all provinces in terms of numbers, lengths and costs. Obtain all the universities that have been built in all provinces in terms of numbers and costs; do the same for schools, clinics, hospitals, etc etc.
If you do not come with an answer that shows a clear bias for the north, then go back and finish Grade 7.

  6. This is the mark of a true Leader. Quietly going about gov’t business not re-election hype. President Lungu is a very impressive Leader. Best out of Zambia yet.
