Lusaka Province minister Mulenga Sata’s defection to the UPND has saddened most residents in Mpika District in Muchinga Province.

And Patriotic Front ( PF) Muchinga Women Chairperson Mary Chifuna says the defection of Mr. Sata to the opposition UPND has not shaken the party in the province.

SOME residents in his late Father and late Republican President Micheal Sata ‘s home town, have described Mulenga Sata’s defection to the opposition UPND as a huge mistake.

Mr. Sata hails from Chitulika Village in Mpika District.

In an interview with ZANIS in Mpika today Erica Mulenga, who is Chitulika village headman, expressed her shock and strongly believe that Mr. Sata has made a huge mistake to leave the ruling party.

Ms. Mulenga says Mr. Sata should have exercised some patience and stayed in the ruling party as the people of Mpika would have stood by him.

And former Mpika District Commissioner Catherine Chileshe describes Mr. Sata’s defection as progress for the party and not a loss.

Ms. Chileshe has described the reasons Mr. Sata gave to join UPND as unrealistic.

She says it is not true for Mr. Sata to claim that the ruling party has neglected the cause of the Zambian people when Government is busy implementing infrastructural development in different parts of the country.

Ms. Chileshe adds that it is a sad move especially that President Lungu respected him and gave him big positions in Government.

She has since called on Zambians to give credit where it is due and to be appreciative.

Joseph Mwanja, Chitulika Section chairman says the move that Mr. Sata has taken to leave is a wrong one as he could have waited until after the general elections.

And Patriotic Front ( PF) Muchinga Women Chairperson Mary Chifuna says the defection of Mr. Sata to the opposition UPND has not shaken the party in the province.

Ms. Chifuna said the PF is glowing from strength to strength adding that the defection of Mr. Sata has no impact to the party at any level.

She said Mulenga Sata is not a factor to the ruling party adding that the party is however, disappointed that Mr.Sata has left a party his father founded which shows that he has no respect to the late President and founder of the PF party.

The Provincial chair lady Chifuna said Mulenga and the party he has joined, the UPND will be taught a lesson in the August 11 General Election.

She said the people of Mpika and Muchinga Province in general are very much disappointed with the behaviour of Mr. Sata and warned him not expect any support from Muchinga Province.

  1. These are all lies. Just because his father was the founder does not mean he should be in the party forever and when he disagree with what is currently happening. Cobra junior has his own opinion and that should be respected. What if he had formed his own party?? The truth is his people from the village will stand by their son’s decision no matter what his decision is and will support it. Usually these kind of ties are stronger and go beyond politics. This why people still support GBM. Don’t listen to lies Junior Cobra – you did the right thing for your country.

    • Very misleading, biased headlines are now becoming characteristic of the LT. From your own article, the people complaining are PF members ONLY. Don’t try to make it look like Mpika residents are all PF.

    • If the visionless PF is “not shaken” why they sad?
Offcourse, Mulenga Sata joining PF has actually not only shaken PF, it has also created an avalanche of monster Sunami. Kabimba, GBM, Dr Scott & Sampa’s departure from PF has left a gigantic monster munch on visionless PF.
Ba Chileshe wait for the awakening shocking sunami next week, pa 11~5, PF will be a shell without vision as usual.

    • LT, this is not news.

Those people just the the bloggers here are entitled to their opinion. Some quite ridiculous actually.

Again, what is this rubbish about people not being a factor? We are all factors. We vote. Is it a question of limited vocabulary?

  4. Mulenga sata was suppose to be the last soldier to leave PF. The question is what is it that lungu has done which UPND and Michael sata did not do? HH is receiving defectors and giving them positions. The two vice presidents in UPND are defectors. when our youths are looking for employment grade 12 certificate is an issue what of our ministers? Those Bembas joining UPND are Tonga condoms used to shield them from tribal tag. if a condom benefits they will also benefit

  5. @2 THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. EVEN A DOG WHO KNOW THAT PEOPLE WOULD COMMENT AGAINST MULENGA SATA’S DEFECTION WHICH MEAN NOTHING BUT MULENGA SATA’S SELF-DESTRUCTION. IF YOU THINK THIS WAS A BRILLIANT PREDICTION, THEN YOUR MINDS ARE VERY SIMPLISTIC. WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A BRILLIANT PREDICTION BY WD IS THE DEFECTION TO UPND OF MULENGA SATA HIMSELF. WHAT FOLLOWS AFTER MULENGA SATA’S DEFECTION ARE OBVIOUS STUFF. EVEN MULENGA SATA’S SELF-DESTRUCTION IS AN OBVIOUS STUFF, ESPECIALLY THAT ECL AND PF ARE WINNING THE ELECTIONS.

  8. PRIOR TO THE PUBLICATION OF THIS ARTICLE THE WATCHDOG HAD REVEALED THAT SOME PEOPLE FROM MPIKA AND WHO WERE NOT EVEN RELATIVES OF THE LATE SATA HAD BEEN PICKED AND PREPARED TO GIVE STATEMENTS TO ATTACK MULENGA SATA ON HIS DEFECTION TO UPND. THE MEETING PLACE WAS ALSO MENTIONED IN THE ARTICLE. IT HAS INDEED COME TO PASS GIVING CREDENCE TO THE WATCHDOG STORY. BUT IT’S IMMORAL FOR THE PF LEADERSHIP TO ENGAGE IN SUCH DIVISIVE AND CHEAP MANIPULATION OF PEOPLE. TO ACHIEVE WHAT?

  9. The young man “aingila ku cimpelesha.” He will realize when it is too late and no one will accept him again in PF including Shinono. He should have been appreciative to President Lungu. The president has been to his aside by even appointing him to very senior positions in government of which some he did not even qualify! The reasons that he has advanced are not convincing and immature! Leave the lad to test the bitter part of prostitution in politics!!!

  10. Former presidents children are not a factor in the Zambian politics. Kaunda had more than 10 children, Chiluba had 10, Mwanawasa had 12, Banda has 10, Sata had 12. Zambia is bigger than these 54 children of our former leaders.

  11. Mulenga has made a wise move and confirming in the process what all well meaning Zambians have come to realise that PF is rotten. At least all indicators point to the fact PF is vacating office after 11/8/16 and then we shall enjoy a fresh breath of air after the pungent smell of the evil party has evaporated. And who said if your father forms a party you are stuck and bound to it eternally even if it turns out to be id!iot like PF? What warped logic is this? Oh, but then again it’s the same lunatic thinking that defines PF.

  13. Mulenga Sata has made a correct move. Mulenga has read the situation well and realises the winds of change are in the air. Mulenga realised that there is no point in staying in the visionless and directionless PF sinking ship. He has decided to jump to safety from the PF wrecked ship. It is Mulenga’s right to join a party of his choice. There is leadership failure in PF and there is no way a govt led by ECL can turn around the collapsing Zambian economy. Its time to give HH a chance to govern and manage this economy. During its 5 yrs PF has shown that they are not only corrupt lack competencies to manage a modern economy

  14. To the UPNDers sneering at this article, which is based on proper journalist compilation, after proper wide ranging research in the area; you need to concentrate on the fact revealed within the report. NO FACTOR. Saddened, but it will not translate to a change in voting pattern for the region. It’s not going to bring in votes from that Region. So what Factor is he? This move has translated to a cheap Media boost for UPND, but without any weight for the task ahead. PF have palmed off a Brat to UPND.

    • @ Patriot Abroad: I don’t see proper Journalism in this article. Check these statements: “… And Patriotic Front ( PF) Muchinga Women Chairperson Mary Chifuna says ……. “, then this “The Provincial chair lady Chifuna said ………”. Now how can one person be repeated in more than one capacity in a single conversation? and then you call this proper journalism? On the other hand Muchinga is not a three people province besides the author went to PF cadres he should have also gone to UPND cadres in Muchinga. The author is just a PF cadre.

    • @Kano Nibena. Illogical my dear friend. It’s actually MORE important for your purposes in UPND to gauge the effect Sata’s move has had on the the PF supporters in the Region. You NEED the majority of PF supporters to cross over to UPND to win the region. Otherwise you have achieved no benefit Vote wise in having him. Agreed? Journalist standard is not what LT should concentrate on as a Digital Media Social tool, in competition with other sites. It’s understandable that they are keen to bang out the stories to ensure audience have enough to captivate them enough to stay online. Visitors to your site is where the money is. Also, the slippage in standards of grammar adds ‘texture’ and ‘cultural identity,’ to the site. Zambians speak the most appalling English, with bad…

They had already predicted this story and you have gone ahead to publish it. Stop this nonsense. Give us news! By the way , say the defection has saddened PF members not Mpika residents.

    • @Putin; The shaking is not for all cadres. Zambia will remain a democratic state. You dont expect everybody to go to one party. Even KK and Nkumbula I understand never received an outright vote from indigenous people then. There were few who voted for Welensky some even say the same Sata was for a good boy for welensky but change finally came. Even in 1991 Eastern Province and few areas such Roan Constituency still voted for UNIP despite 100% from Southern, Western, North Western were recorded for MMD but change still came. Upto 2001 others in Eastern were still with UNIP see MKONDO LUNGU but change came. It is just the RB clause that brought 80% Eastern vote to MMD. 20% has seen PF win some, UPND win some. This is expected even now for Northern, Muchinga and Luapula. 30% will come…

  17. like it or not, the defection of sata is a big blow to PF. he is a reflection of those huge number of people in PF who are not happy with it. It doesn’t matter what people say about him, truth is that he has shaken PF. PF will never be the same.
Worse still, the defection of mulenga sata is an indicator of what is yet to come of PF after parliament is dissolved. the PF will be ripped into pieces.

My expectation was that we ask mulenga to come back, but we are in denial.

Guy Scott is going to break up PF big big time.

  19. It is obvious that Mulenga has made a good move if he had continued to stay on it was not going to be terrible for the ruling all in all it is good riddance because such individuals can never be trusted. The president had a big heart for him so he has messed him self up. His complaining that PF has been hijacked but that is the same way old Upnd will feel about people joining. Ka issue ka grade 12 equivalent nga alitekanya fye. Because uncle Guy has advised he should have taken a leaf from his cousin Miles. All the best!

  20. This is very shallow, biased and completely unprofessional reporting. How do you claim a population to be unimpressed about Sata’s resignation, yet your interviews are reported very selectively. Where are the other people’s views? The interviews reported are essentially of women PF officials, a selected few. You guys have got to grow up and get serious. Zambia is a country struggling to survive because this kind of nonsensical reporting. What we need is genuine reporting to allow people to be informed better and debate using unbiased information. The days of KK when everything went are over! It doesn’t matter who become President, if this goes on, we are doomed. Information needs to be accurate and correctly reflect what is being pertaining. Is this your Donchi Kubeba?

  22. Compare the development of Muchinga and Northwestern Provinces, and you will soon realise how corrupt and visionless PF is. The source of copper revenues is underdeveloped to the core, due to those in power being tribalists. We need change of mindset to have leadership that is beyond petty social considerations. Southern Province is contributing so much to the GDP of this country through beef, milk, sugar, hydro-power, tourism, fish and other sectors. If only other provinces could have differential economic sectors like Southern Province, then Zambia would be on its way to economic recovery.

  23. Which voters. Mwana tulechula. I was in Lupula in Kazembe Village. Villagers there are very angry with this government. Fishermen are being arrested week in and out and they are complaining that they have no other sources of income since Pamafi PF is not giving them farm inputs. I can predict a big, big disaster for PF. They will need a miracle to survive.

  25. 1. Mulenga or no Mulenga, scot or no scot, GBM or no GBM, job losses or not, low copper prices or not, high mealie meal prices or not, kwacha low or high, Mr HH simply does not connect with people. He is not seen as an alternative leader. On the other hand, Edgar connects very easily with people, he evokes trust which is not the case with HH.
    2. The only party where a president is nominated by the widow after the death of their president is UPND, Mrs Mwanawasa and Mrs Sata both tried to select the party president and it did not work. It only worked when Mazoka died and his widow personally “elected” HH. Shows you the DNA of UPND, but it will not work on national level that Mazoka’s successor chosen by his widow will become president of Zambia. If HH does not know it by now, that is…

  26. Firstly UPND should have a convention and Gary Nkombo should be president elect. PF needs to get rid of Kambwili, Father Bwalya and Mr. Chama. These parties belong to Zambians and not Politicians.
