Weekend Scorecard: Zambia; beware of Bissau ball boys

Share

Zambia’s next 2017 Africa Cup Group E opponents Guinea Bissau has been warned by CAF over the behaviour of their ball boys.

The Group E leaders have been handed a warning of sanctions by the CAF disciplinary committee after their ball boys invaded the pitch in the teams’ 1-0 home win over Kenya on March 23 in Bissau.

Guinea Bissau will host Zambia on June 4 in both sides penultimate Group E match.

Meanwhile, Guinea Bissau and Kenya are again the the receiving end of CAF’s disciplinary committee following crowd trouble in the return leg in Nairobi that the former also won 1-0.

Kenya has been fined US$10,000 by CAF after crowd trouble led to police using tear gas in the dying minutes of the match in Nairobi on March 27 and players from both sides’ constantly contesting refereeing decisions during the game.

Kenya, who will visit Zambia in their final Group E match in September, have been cautioned that should a similar situation occur again, they will play all their international home matches at a neutral venue.

Guinea Bissau lead Group E on 7 points, Congo-Brazzaville are second on 6, tied with third placed Zambia while Kenya have 1 point after four rounds of matches played.

Only one team from each group qualifies with two best overall runners-up in the qualifiers going through to January’s finals in Gabon.
