This is despite a challenge by Nevers Mumba who stormed the registrar’s office demanding that such a decision be reversed to favour him.
Home Affairs spokesperson Moses Suwali said the Registrar of Societies had recognised Mr Mutati as the newly-elected MMD president following the just-ended party convention on May 20 this year, held at the Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe.
Mr Suwali said the registrar received a letter from the Mutati-led faction to change the presidency and declare Mr Mutati as the favoured candidate.
“The Registrar of Societies received a letter from Mr Mutati and his group and as per procedure the changes were made according to the Act of the society,” Mr Suwali said.
He said despite Dr Mumba claiming that Mr Mutati and his faction were suspended there was no documentation to prove the claim.
On Friday, Dr Mumba said he was the legitimate leader and it was wrong for the Registrar of Societies to recognise Mr Mutati as MMD president.
MMD spokesperson Raphael Nakachinda said Mr Mutati’s team presented records to the Registrar of Societies to show that Dr Mumba and his leadership could no longer legally represent the party as their term of office had come to an end following the election of new leaders.

Registrar of Socieities, show some maturity on this matter and handle the said case properly. You are not hired to favour PF, though they appointed you, they do not pay you at all.
Nevers is now becoming a useless player on the political scene. Storming offices when you know you’re no longer MMD president? You ran to Kaponya (HH) claiming to have the whole party behind you. You’ve become useless. I see PF winning followed by FDD, UPND and lastly MMD in that order.
There is only one party which is led by Kaponya, supported by kaponya’s for the benefit of kaponya’s. Plunderers Federation!!!

Nevers should go back to the pulpit. First he should ask for forgiveness from God for diverting his attention to the things of this world. Nevers Mumba should read the MMD constitution on the terms of office bearers its 5 years then elections through the party national convention. Its not like UPND who has never had elections to elect their leaders, MMD is the mother of democracy and they practice it. Pastor Mumba ni kapulikoni musela kwakaba.

When Nevers was “in talks” with Edgar over a possible alliance, Nevers was protected against anyone rising from MMD including Mutati. Now that Mutati is PF, Nevers has no protection.
