President Edgar Lungu has implored newly sworn in high court judges to exhibit high levels of integrity in their discharge of national duties.

Speaking today at State house when he swore in nine judges and one state council, President Lungu advised the judges to acquaint themselves with literature highlighting the ethics of a judge.

He pointed out that people will respect the outcome of a judgment when judges exhibit professionalism by sticking to ethics.

“Therefore it becomes imperative that you work hard and also ensure that the integrity you are talking about is maintained and you maintain this by ensuring that u stick to the ethics of what judges are expected to do. I know there is a lot of literature, history books on the does and don’ts of a Judge, but one of the things I can tell you without going in details is perception of the Zambian people and the community in which we leave,” he advised.

Mr Lungu further urged the judges to refrain from being found with people who may have a questionable character as this may tarnish their image as judges.

The President said the perception people will have towards them emanates from the people they associate with.
The Head of State counselled the new judges to emulate the conduct of old high court judges who have raised the grade of integrity in the judiciary.

President Lungu said some people have a wrong perception of being a judge as they think it is glamorous.
He pointed out that there is more to being a judge than the glamour people associate to the office of the judge.

” I know some think being it is glamorous to be a judge, I don’t think so, at the end of the day you will discover that there is so much more to it than the glamour, a lot of hard work and the expectation by the people of Zambia from our judges,” President Lungu noted.

    • PROGRESSIVE ZAMBIANS CANNOT VOTE FOR THIS LOOTER, THIS PLUNDERER, THIS EGOCENTRIC PERSON WHO IS ONLY SERVING HIMSELF, NEGLECTING MILLIONS OF THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE WALLOWING IN ABJECT POVERTY WHILE HE SWIMS IN THE LUXURY OF MORE THAN 23 MILLION KWACHA. THIS THIEF SHOULD BE SENT BACK TO HIS HOME COUNTRY MALAWI. LUNGU HAS DUPED US. LUNGU IS MEDIOCRE!

    • imwe bantu,, lungu has not stop drinking,, kanshi??? the man is so drunk that he fails to face the that indian young girl in the picture,, it look as if the indian girl is swearing in lungu not the other way round

    • go to india and see if any of you africans will get a job as a judge. Infact, you will become untouchables – a cursed people whom they dare not even have touch with. Why are we so easy to accept others and yet they dont accept you in their countries. This christain nonsense is what is killing us. Grow a pai and make yourselves strong and resolute in the name of justice. Justice is doing to others what they do unto you. If god himself will torture those who speak against him forever, why should we also not practice the same kind of justice. You treat us like dirt, we treat you like dirt too.

    • @ flagzagaze this kind of xenophobic thinking is out of place in this modern world! Guy Scott has shown us the way when he was acting President! It appears you are too young to know these facts!

    • They are all bembas and eaterners and one mwenye. Just like the constitutional court judges. so who is tribal now?

    • @Peter Njobvu: You just have to find a way to bring Bembas in your freaking TRIBAL GARBAGE, right? Even having GBM, Sampa, Mulenga, Canicious, Nalumango, even a White Dude, in your midst has not helped cleans your BEMBAPHOBIA ka. What a sad commentary on your kind!

  1. ECL is doing exactly what his mentor BOB mugabe did,how on earth can he swore nine judges as if its an urgent issue, moreover parliament is not sitting any time soon,as these judges have to be rectified by parliament.Lungu knows that he will lose in the first run and he is placing these judges so that after re run ,he will win with a rigged slim margin ,then the matter will go to court who will rule in his favor.only a real revolt by the people will stop lungu from ruining our country further.its really sad for zambia ,something is wrong with us africans,THATS THE problem when your role models are dictators,we are in trouble.we need to strengthen our govt institutions,CHANGE COMES FROM OUTSIDE NOT WITHIN.NO ANY POLITICAL PARTY WILL CHANGE THE CURRENT STATUS QUO.

    • In your eyes and wisdome what ever EL does is wrong. God help open your eyes. There is nothing wrong with biffing up highcourt judges as the present are understaffed thus resulting in prolonged cases. This remains a positive development.

  2. Even the constitution court will not help you rig the election.Lungu Kuyabebele. We shall vote in large numbers pakalitente litulike.VIVA HH.Instead of campaigning is busy swearing people.

    • RED BARRET….you seem to denie the fact that EL is returning to state house. Better accept now or you die with a heart attack. Viva CL

    • People should learn to speak for themselves… How many votes are you casting bwana red barret? I understand its just one.. Not everyone will vote for the person you are supporting, lets just wait for the final results

  3. yesterday it was eight and now nine–where is the money for these hefty salaries coming from. Can we really have 17 judicial appointments while parliament is in recess? LAZ needs to comment on this issue–I smell a rat here; no vetting, no budgetary oversight and all right before an election?

    • Another valueless comment. If you cant see the merit of ensuring that our courts are well staffed then keep quiet. Access to timely, equitable and faire justice (ATEFJ) is imperative for our citizenly. Ensuring that the judiciary is well staffed is one of the preliquisites of ATEFJ. So you better save your ignorance. My vote is on EL. For MPs i will vote for an opposition member ie UPND.

    • Iwe @Munalula, where was Chakolwa Chagwa all these months when normal running of govt was talking place? Why now during elections? Why is this important all of a sudden? Your intended voting is nonsensical – a President without enough MPs is hamstrung.

  4. A helicopter was nearly brought down yesterday sir. Your comment your excellence is being awaited to condemn the act. The target was one of your citizens and you have a duty to protect all citizens. You are the President for all

    • HH was informed not to land on school grounds but he did not adhere to the advise given by police. These are the consenquences. Otherswise the act by the carders was not in order. Policy should deal with the specific individuals. Otherwise ECL has my vote. Sonta

    • Your reckless comment shows all that’s wrong with Zambia. There are very few open grounds in Zambia other than school grounds. Trying to make it hard for opponents is an instruction to democracy. Should a top tier politician be killed by PF, expect the repercussions and consequences.

  5. This is wonderful, is Abha the only female candidate appointed today? or are there more? Its great to see so far that Mrs. Patel has come this far and is worthy of the SC appointment! We need to have fresh vibrant minds whilst not compromising the standards! Good call… Would like to see the complete list!

    • While you are in Canada enjoying? Don’t be prejudice clock her record and then speak again! Who were part of the agencies that aided in exposing the corruption of the 2nd Republican leader? Don’t be racist and check in on her and what she has achieved, for her and the nation…

  6. Great work Mr President. Wait for the empty, women and vender butterers to give there empty promises. Yours will just be talking facts. Sonta… and the chagwamania will hit the entire country.

    • @mark…. i see Lungu being rated as the most loved president in 2021. This is how mwanawasa started his presidential journey in 2001 after wining that election. MMMD should have gone in 2001. The poverty levels that Zambia experienced preceding 2001 was worser that what we see today. Per capita income was in the negatives but the people still gave MMD another mondate till 2011. So i see no change this august. i Am flying to Zambia to specifically vote for him. Crooks like scott Sampa and GBM have made UPND unlikable and i think my support this time around is PF. It looks more cleaner and better organised. More importantely is is a party of choice.

    • FTJ rigged the 2001 elections that Mwanawasa purportedly won by a mere 29,000. Mwanawasa was not to blame for the rigging and he did a lot subsequently to correct the wrongs of FTJ. In 2016, Chakolwa Chagwa will try and rig for his own benefit and nobody else will be to blame but himself. Vote as you have always voted – without thinking. We do not need worse poverty than PF have already brought to Zambia.

  7. These thugs trying to being down the helicopter for opposition is no good, ECL as president shoud team such people.Peace should be maintained, we are all brothers and sisters, why try to kill each other over power?

  8. @TRUTH-fu LIE please keep quiet! What’s wrong with you crooks who want to sell the country? You will never succeed! Keep dreaming!

  9. James John Skinner CJ said “…It is one of the functions of the judiciary to criticize the actions of the Executive or its individual servants when the need arises. If that right is to be denied then the courts can no longer effectively carry out their duties.” Let us hope that these newly appointed judges have such principles and courage. Skinner CJ had gone on to say that “Confidence in the Judiciary is a delicate bloom in Africa” and we should not “risk destroying its growth in Zambia.” Such confidence rests in their hands.

  10. THAT IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT LAZY BONES TO DO. TIME IS RUNNING OUT BA LUNGU WHILE YOUR OPPONENTS ARE BUZZY TAKING OVER YOUR MEMBERS. IT IS EASY TO DESTROY THAN TO BUILD. PF IS A DYING HORSE NOW AND EVERY WHERE LUNGU WILL NEVER PULL THE BIG CLOUDS OF THE MASS SEEN WITH THE UPND.

BA LUNGU TODAY IS 14, MEANIG 45 DAYS TO GO. PEOPLE HAVE STOPED LISTENING FROM YOUR ZNBC BUT ARE LISTENING FOR THEMSELVES DIRECT INFORMATION FROM UPND. BY THE TIME YOU WILL START MOVING OUT YOU SHALL SEE NO ONE EXCEPT CHAWAMA PEOPLE.
COUNT HOW MANY DISTRICTS DO WE HAVE? MORE THAN 150 MEANING YOU HAVE TO CAPTURE 4 DISTRICTS PER DAY AND DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WILL BE WAITING FOR YOUR ARRIVAL? EFYO BAPWA NIFIFINE.
PLEASE KEEP ON INTERTAINING YOUR OFFICE AS YOU WAIT HH AND GBM TO COME AND MAKE A RALLY IN THE STATE…

  11. Now here, even a chinangwa can clearly see that your Lungu is relying too much and abusing the rigging plan.Ask VJ,Rigging is supposed to be just “a token of appreciating”.And not to reach a point where you Suspend all campaigns nationally-until further notice.what type of TB is this? The opposition wont have to go far to catch the PF rigging.I see more drama coming up.The PF will be exposing themselves foolishly. The Judges have been appointed not to serve Zambia, but to serve Edgar Lungu. He has clearly saying rigging is the only plan B left, but you cant win an election by rigging along, you need votes also to fuse in,of which Lungu doesnt ve those votes. It will be like having sex in football field with someone’s wife for all to see, instd of around the corner of the block.

  12. He knos he is out of the job in three months and he is busy saturating our benches with dead wood. All these appointments must be reviewed in August 2! Especially the constitutional court judges, they all do not qualify and must be removed as soon as UPND comes into power.

  13. Kwena even the appearance of some of Chinangwa Chagwa’s choice for judges leaves much to be desired, I hope he will not leave mediocrity in the judicial system with a bunch of Kaponya lawyers as judges. A judge should not even be doubted when you look at one.
