Government has released funds to contractors working on the 169 km Chingola-Solwezi road and on township roads in the district.

North-western Province Permanent Secretary, Ephraim Mateyo, confirmed to ZANIS that the contractors were paid last week and have since resumed works.

The works on the Chingola-Solwezi road, which has delayed, are being done by China Geo and Buildcon Contractors at a cost of over K1 billion.

Mr Mateyo said both contractors working on the road have gone back on site.

A check on township roads by ZANIS crew found that China Geo, the contractor working on the 20.6 km township roads in Solwezi has resumed works on the Medical Centre road.

The township roads are being constructed at a cost K221 million.

Mr Mateyo appealed to the people to be patient and stop politicising the road works because the road, once completed, will benefit every Zambian.

He said the releasing of funds to complete the road works was a testimony of government’s commitment to finish all road projects in the province.

    • Election time is before us. Now panic sets in. The rehabilitation of the road should have been finished years ago. Come on Lungu move over and let HH take over.

  1. “The works on the Chingola-Solwezi road, which has delayed, are being done by China Geo and Buildcon Contractors at a cost of over K1 billion.”

Delays in construction mean more money…just imagine a large construction company on a big project temporary abandoning site with its 100 or workmen and hired machinery due to payment delays…then going back again after some months; who do you think pays for those delays? Sonta..this is the story with this govt projects overpriced and costing double in the name of infrastructure development.

  2. Just a political strategy to woo fools to vote for PF. Overall, this is what happens when you entrust Zambia to a pack of thieves. Zambians indeed must be a cursed people or it is Zambia itself which is a cursed land if they ever re-elect these thieves.

  3. How many times is this road going to be funded year in year out the same road is being talked about.Sometime it is important to remain quite than opening your mouth.
Lungu is coming to Solwezi to open a shopping mall which started in MMD.
The goodness is that the people of the province have already resolved thier preferred President in this years election

  4. It is the first time in the history of this country that road projects are being abandoned by contractors. I have driven on Chingola solwezi road four times since November last year and it is just getting worse, the only things that get worked on are humps in the detours. Chingola – Kitwe road is another where works have completely come to a stand still. This is NOT poor planning, but no plan at all. If this is the kind of Zambia we want, lets continue on the same path…

  5. The plan was to get some votes from the people who are living between Chingola and Solwezi as they will be told that the Government is a listening government vote for them….FOR ME AND MY FAMILY IT IS HH

  6. But we were told road works has stalled because contractors could not work during the rainy season?? So that was not the reason but it was the issue of money?!!

  7. Bloomberg seem to be very interested in Zed. An expert from there criticised us yesterday saying WE have borrowed too much money but we havent put it in infra-structure. We should learn from Ethiopia which put its borrowed money into transport infra-structure

  8. SORRY GUYS WE ARE AWARE OF THE TRICK. WE HAVE ALREADY DECIDED TO VOTE UPND AND JUST EAT WHAT PF GIVES. PF FOR EATING BUT VOTE UPND.

  9. Seleni tubombeko! One moment u critize that fact that Pf has given u too many roads at once. Where do u think money will come from to do ALL ROADS at 1 time? This is what happens, a reasonable Govt finishes other roads & then when those r finished u come continue with those that laged behind. U behave as if Z is a rich country. Muletasha! Has gbm even mnged a road construction while in Govt o was he just busy getting tenders FO himself?

  10. Comment:what development are you ephraim mateyo talking about. cannot you. be ashamed just because you had no job. when. pf has given you job you start to. fool us. be careful because God is watching you with what you are doing with your boss

  11. Too late ba Mateyo, I have already decided to foolishly against you, why not try your lucky in Muchinga- Chitulika Village or Shiwngandu? Dis you build toilets for those people who turned in large numbers in Zingalume or they still defacating in the open? or else mwaishapa polo amaudala
