Zambia have been drawn in the group of death on the road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow.
Chipolopolo have been drawn in Group B against three former World Cup finalists and fellow Africa Cup champions.
Algeria, Nigeria and Cameroon stand in Zambia’s way of a debut World Cup berth when the qualifiers start this October.
Cameroon have not faced Zambia in the World Cup qualifiers since the 2002 Japan/Korea race.
Zambia lost 1-0 away in Yaounde but drew 2-2 at Independence stadium against a Cameroon side that had just landed in Lusaka two hours before kickoff.
This will be the first time Zambia will be playing Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier despite the two side long history of duels.
Zambia are reunited with Algeria for the first time since the 2010 South Africa qualifiers.
Algeria won 2-0 away in Chililabombwe and 1-0 at home in Blida on the Desert Foxes route to qualifying to the Johannesburg finals and Zambia finishing third in their group.
Fixtures to be updated shortly.
Kikiki best headline ever! I have faith in the Underdogs though. Let’s go Zambia!
Of course we all want our team to win, but the first thing to do is have the right team and the right technical bench. We have very dull players who play more in their own half, have very poor ball control and inaccurate passes, are physically and mentally weak, lack self confidence and do not play with their hearts. In short, our aspirations don’t match our abilities. Certainly A lot of work for FAZ in the next few weeks and months…. When did you last see a Chipolopolo team that enjoys a string of 5 or more passes without carelessly losing the ball?
OBSERVATIONS:
1. Since the departure of HR Chipolopolo’s fitness level have dropped drastically
2. Mweene is never sure when and how to release the ball, and every time he does so it lands on an opponent {please watch him closely – if we ever feature him again}
3. Sunzu is finished and so are his reflexes, in fact our best defence now is the combination of the boys we featured at CHAN in Rwanda
4. We seriously need a psychologist on our bench – the recurrence of conceding goals within the first and last 7 minutes of play is worrying. Same as the confusion/excitement that follows our scoring such that we usually fail to maintain the lead as a result
5. Our bench is technically bankrupt – we always fail to identify the best combination of players to START the game with, and whenever…
like i said yesterday, 3 home wins and to away draw is all zambia need. easy
@patrick you make it sound so simple! Kabili the other team will be waiting for Zambia to draw at their home and to lose in Zambia. When u have non-strategic thinking leaders, they make you dream about the impossible!
What group of death? They failed to qualify to the AFCON 2017 tournament via a fair group of Kenya, Guinea Bissau and Congo. To me Zambia plays better when they are pitted against the so called big teams.
Zambia has a mathematical….statistical….algebraic chance of qualifying
Everyone in this group is in dangerous group
what a bad start for the kamanga executive, only a miracle is needed. Welcome to reality, with or without a full time coach we are going no were.
we have just been beaten by Namibia today. Kaya kaya na Algeria. Our team ni MBATA. Lets try cricket.
That’s not a full Zed team.
There are no small teams any more. All the teams in the group haveequal chances. What matters most for Zambia is to appoint a strong technical bench ASAP .The will have to pick players on merit and then FAZ yo organize friendlies with strong teams in other groups like Ivory Coast,Morocco ,Egypt and Tunisia.
Zambia in its current form will not win any match.Does Chipolopolo expect to beat Algeria or Cameroon if the being walloped by Swaziland and Namibia?Chipolopolo is in a sorry site.
Lets just write to FIFA and surrender. Or we just send a picture with our hands in the air
you are a coward jairo,, maybe you dont even watch football
@patrick – yep coward he might be. but he sure is funny as hell. i loved his comment. cracked me up
Jairo, like zagaze said you are funny as hell man. I couldn’t stop laughing.
A no call no show will do us a big favor looking at our so called pro’s, and better concentrate on the chawama xmas tournament.
Bakaponoka ba Zambia we should not waste our taxpayers money better we feed blind people along the streets that u all know.
We wanted change and kamanga came. Taata nipabwato because we may end up with another Kamanga as president
Footexit. We should have a referendum on exiting football
If we are as good as we think we are, we shouldn’t shudder at any teams drawn against us. But having said that, such draws are usually done in such a way that the group has at least one or two ‘weak’ teams. This draw, on the face of it looks dubious or wrongly seeded.
Full time coach now please…none pf those backdoor Galu deals!
NO WORRIES NO VUNDU! PA HOME TUKA BASEPA BONSE OBVIOUS!!!!!
To be honest, our chances are slim and would rather not invest any emotions to avoid heartbreak kikikikiki
Ba Zediiiiiiii, let’s forget about mpila now.Viva bravo zed boxers u make us proud. We are behind u.
1. Poor player selection and Nchekelamo is what will shut Zambia’s hopes of qualifying to the world cup. The fisrt step Zambia needs to do urgently is to find a better coach than Lwandamina. The second step is to take the Arm band back to Chris Katongo. The Guy has leadership qualities.
The following are the players who can qualify to the world cup
Goal Keepers
1 Kennedy Mweene (Vice Captain)
2 Danny Munyau
3 Jacob Banda
Defenders
1 Stopilla Sunzu
2 Davies Nkausu
3 Aaron Katebe
4 Kondwani Mtonga
5 Buchizya Mfune
6 Joseph Musonda
7 Emmanuel Mbola
Midfielders
1 Christopher Katongo (Captain)
2 Isaac Chansa
3 Chisamba Lungu
4 Rainford Kalaba
5 Lubambo Musonda
6 Nathan Sinkala
7 Cletus Chama
Strikers
1 Collins Mbesuma
2 Jacob Mulenga
3 Winstone Kalenga
