The Football Association of Zambia have conceded that Chipolopolo have a uphill battle to qualify to the 2018 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Russia.

Zambia, who have never qualified to the FIFA World Cup, have been drawn in Grouo B, for many, the group of death on the road to the Moscow finals.

Cameroon, Algeria and Nigeria are the three teams Zambia must negotiate if they are to make their debut FIFA World Cup finals.

“It is a tough draw and all our opponents have been to the World Cup before,” FAZ general secretary Ponga Liwewe said.

“It will take a concerted effort to qualify but if we approach the matches with a well prepared team, play to the best of our ability and keep focused, we can qualify.”

Algeria, Nigeria and Cameroon are the big guns Zambia must negotiate in their Stable of Augeas.

    • The boys must face Mahrez! Nigeria and Cameroon. This is worse than Leister City had to face in the Premier League

  1. lets not dwell on the past records. let be confident of ourselves. these teams are with new players all together. choosa muntunta. lets not be defeated before the main game.

  2. Mr.Liwewe you are correct and what FAZ needs to do as matter of urgency is to recruit an expatriate coach immediately and arrange friendlies with tough opponents like Tunisia,Egypt,Morocco ,Senegal and Ivory Coast.
We must not just cry for qualifications because at the world cup there are teams like Germany,Italy,Belgium,Chile and Argentina just to mention a few waiting for us if we do qualify. If you can’t beat Algeria or Cameroon, who then?Argentina?

  3. I am sick of this we need an ” expatriate” obviously muzungu coach to qualify for Russia 2018! What nonsense! We have brilliant local engineers, doctors, pilots, scientists and other experts working in jobs requiring high skills. Yes, we even have our own Zambian president! What is so special about the National soccer team that only a white man can do? Shame 52 years after Independence and we still yearn for colonial rule!

    • You can be sick of it but just count the number of local coaches you have had and what they have achieved with the national team. On the two occasions when we have failed to qualifiy for afcon it was with LOCAL coaches never with expatriates. The truth is that their football academies produce better managers

    • For me a local coach will only get my support if he goes one better than Moses Simwala. Simwala took Devils to the club finals. At present no one qualifies

  4. Ponga what you need is to create a private entity to manage the business side of National Team and the league to maximize revenue streams …those days of the Galu are gone. I dont see why FAZ should not be one of the richest organisations in Africa able to attract the best professionals to assist the FAZ staff.

  5. This is good because Zambia with big names performs better. ONLY! do not start using children in name of building a better team like you did at cosafa and Africa Cup qualifiers. Patrick phiri used older players at NAPSA and accieved alot. I have seen it is the old players who have doing fine. Mbesuma, Katongo, Kalengo, Kalaba. Imagine you remove these so called old players what will happen. So remove personal hatred. We dont want more Milanzi vs Kalu or now Chisamba Lungu vs Lwandamina.

  6. Kalusha was a great guy. Bring him back with Herve Renard and this team will qualify without any problem.

Leave him.out and get booted out quickly.

  7. Ni vichiyani lomba ivi? At I Aegian. Just communicate with us in sim.ple English. Whom are you trying to impress?

  8. you people this is why in Zambia today basatana namufula saana.Kalu will always be great whether you hate him or not.Kalusha Bwalya alibomba saana.muletasha mwakulapumwa.Recently Kalu invited by UN your kamanga kaya who invited him!

  9. Come on guys all those teams will have eleven players on the pitch kicking the same ball its just a matter of having the same spirit our players had when the won the Africa cup in 2012 we should learn never to lose hope we don’t need to give up before the fight

  10. If Algeria who have big names all over the world have hired the services of a foreigner in the name of former Ghanian Coach Seredivic, why can’t Zambia do something? Nafikala filelolela tuaksebane fye, elo fikatampe ukilabutauka. This is the time to put things right ba FAZ, not ukulolelela mpaka mu October. First things first, find an expatriate coach now…………If you are used to losing, ifwe twakana mukwai..
