The Zambia Police Service says it will not hesitate to arrest anyone found armed in public in a manner that causes public terror.

In a statement Zambia Police Chief Kakoma Kanganja said the police has noticed a proliferation of items that are dangerous which are being used to cause insecurity in our country.

He said the law is very clear on persons moving around with weapons and that those found wanting will be arrested.

“The police has noticed a proliferation of items that are dangerous which are being used to cause insecurity in our country. The items include air gun pistols which have become common, machetes (pangas),taser guns and catapults among others.

“We would like to warn the general public that Section 84 of the Penal Code Act states clearly that any person who goes armed in public, without lawful occasion in such a manner as to cause terror to any person commits an offence and his arms may be forfeited,” he explained.

The Police Chief added “From the foregoing, with regards to the political violence we had experienced the police will not hesitate to arrest anyone found armed in public in a manner that causes public terror even if such persons are licensed fire arm holders.”

He further said he has directed the police to ensure that anybody found armed in public is arrested regardless of their political affiliation.

“We do not expect anyone to be armed in public in such a manner as to cause terror to the general public.

“I am therefore, directing all police officers to ensure that all those who are found armed in public and causing terror regardless of their political affiliation are arrested and prosecuted without any due delay,” he said.

  1. But how are we going to protect ourselves from pf thugs, when you are pro pf? Teaser guns and paper spray are for self defense.

    • Start from disarming Davies Chama and cleanup PF secretariat, search Ka Kapyongo, am still looking for him.
Second stop is State house advising office, be-careful, Kaizer is armed.
William Banda was disarmed long ago, and he joined UPND with just a razor blade for shaving.

    • Kanganji, please don’t start sounding like HH…There is no need to warn anybody, just direct your officer to start doing their work….arresting these thugs…Otherwise you are going to be fired very soon. You are not doing your work, Sir.

  2. Unbelievable how the country went to the dogs within 16 months. It will take yours to rebuild what has been damaged in 16 months, very sad for Zambia. Zambians are scared to death of one man, if the country can stand up not with arms or weapons but with hearts on the streets the devil in that one person will colapse. Pray for that devil, maybe pray for his or her death, let him or her die standing. The devil is in the ruler of our country.

  5. Lungu is a very dangerous man.

The levels of lawlessness in the country will escalate and are a signature of his rule.

If he wins forget about him leaving power. You have a zambian mugabe in the making.

  8. Police IG, there are suitable candidates at Buchi where GBV himself was warning people that he would break their legs. UPND took the cue from the hulk and attacked PF cadres.
No sacred cow, the other day you arrested and charged PF cadres in Lusaka, what about those UPND thugs at Buchi? Do you want Kopala to react on these GBV thugs?
