President Edgar Lungu has directed the Zambia Public Procurement Authority to ensure that all infrastructural projects, including the airport expansion and electricity power station projects, are supplied by locally produced products.

The President said the move will support locally produced goods such as steel bars produced by the Universal Mining and Chemical Industries limited of Kafue.

President Lungu said the steel plant, which employs about 1000 people, is in line with government’s development programme of job creation hence the need for support by all Zambians.

The Head of State said government stands ready to meet the energy demand required by the steel plant so that it can operate at full capacity.

President Lungu was speaking when he launched the new Direct Reduced Iron Plant at Kafue steel plant in Kafue District.

President Lungu has also directed the minister of mines and the Managing Director of ZCCM Investment Holdings to allocated Kafue steel plant a sizeable coal reserve to enable the upgrading of iron and steel products.

The President was earlier taken on a conducted tour of both the steel plant and the new Direct Reduced Iron Plant which is at the same premise.

And Trade Kings Group of Companies Executive Director, Bright Chunga, told the President that Kafue Steel Plant is producing 120,000 metric tonnes per annum but will upgrade to 240,000 metric tonnes per annum once the plant starts using iron ore later this year.

Dr Chunga said load shedding is one of the challenges that have hampered production restricting it to eight hours per day.

He has also disclosed that the firm will later this year open an ore mine in Nampundwe in Shibuyunji district.

The President is in Kafue District and later expected to address a public rally at Mutendere Primary school.

  1. The Kafue rally was not bad at all! He first outlined people’s needs in Kafue and then stated what PF government pledges to improve! It is for the people of Kafue to make a decision!

    • So he waited to commission a lot of these finished projects at a time when he would have been in full campaign mode

Are you being conned, hoodwinked and made to believe that he is coming good?

Mind you, even a nobody can commission a project of any size or kind.

Do not be swayed, what you saw the past 3 years is what you should judge this man, end of…

Someone call a cab, get me out of here now

      Thanks

    • President Lungu is doing exceptionally well in this election season. However, PF leadership structures at all national levels should now get in overdrive fully applied to the campaign programs. Be on top of of grassroot campaign programs with foot soldiers well supported to lead door to door campaigns. Bola in 90 minutes and not a game of piece-meals. Leave opponents feeding their base that PF has already rigged this election and participation is a waste of time but our Armageddon option against Zambians for rejecting us. You cannot help change their narrative of utopia because this democracy. Until their put their utopia of unleashing Armageddon, no need to teach them our collective response to utopia.

    • He has borrowed over K10 billion. Why didn’t he sort out those problems instead of stealing K15 million. His minions got the other large chunk and that is where the campaign funds are coming from.

Lungu will be the most hated former president once.reality of his debt contracting and theft hits Zambian minds. Right now the euphoria is wool over people’s eyes but can’t last long.

    • @Victor was the sontapo guy also told how this company is polluting Kafue river by “urinating” all its effluent waste in the river! Unfortunately, the company has been given carte blanche to destroy the environment more than KCM. Mwanasa refused to allow a steel company to be next to a residential area! Environment Council is a toothless bulldog! Anyway, now they are suing the owners of the company overseas!

    • I won’t vote for K15 million thief Lungu…..please join me in preventing this thief from stealing another K75 million in next five years. This guy was disbarred by LAZ for stealing clients money. That’s a fact!

Lungu is a Euro bond thief.

As for sonta……I sonta at $10 billion debt Lungu has procured and is not talking about. Crooked thief!

    • Yaa I agree with you Saulosi, it is about time Edgar stopped taking advantage of other people’s work.
Tell him my house will be finished on July 15th, he can come and officially open for me!!

  2. With one month to go This is when Lungu realises that Zambian industries need a buy Zambian campain from the leadrship.

  3. Evidence that Edgar Chakolwa Kaloba Wrungu is 1di0tic and incompetent why force the investors to raise Kafungalashi.

  4. The truth hitting home full time!! You can even show us the pictures of the public rally at Mutendere Primary school because it was a TOTAL FLOP.
Nobody attended – it was deserted, nobody wanted to hear Lungu spewing his vomit!! The most stupid and childish president in the world who has neither a clue nor vision for the future our country!

    • Insulting and demeaning the president doesn’t attract votes to your preferred candidate or make him popular. It just shows how useless you and your party are. Try to reason with a clean mind. He will never be president forever and yours will never even become president.

  5. THESE DIRECTIVES ARE USELESS AS NO ONE CARRIES THEM OUT.THE MAIN CULPRITS ARE THE CHINESE.AFTER “NICHEKELEKO” CAN YOU FORCE THEM TO BUY LOCAL STEEL?THEY WILL MAKE NO PROFIT & A CORRUPTED PERSON CAN NOT RAISE A FINGER.

  6. ‘Edgar Lungu has directed the Zambia Public Procurement Authority to ensure that all infrastructural projects, including the airport expansion and electricity power station projects, are supplied by locally produced products.’
What make these projects function are products imported from other countries,Hydro you need Generators,Airport Radar and electtronics.Do we prodeuce these?Maybe katele Kalumba can tender to supply the traditional computers.

    • This coming from this tin Edgar who imported Solar hammer mills all the way from China via his corrupt Presidential slush fund…when Zambian companies have the capabilities to put together such at less cost.

  7. WHAT IS THAT NON-ZAMBIAN DOING LIFTING A PF FIST. DONT INVOLVE YOURSELF IN POLITICS. THE PRESIDENT MUST CONDEMN THAT MAN BY HIM.

    • Sir, He is a Zambian of Asian origin. He has all the rights as a citizen to raise his fist
      Don’t be angry. Sir.

  8. Only fools can buy these cheap campaign tricks by Lungu. I just don’t know who is more cursed – the Zambian people or Zambia as a country (land) itself! How can somebody vote to perpetuate visionless, corruption, & poverty???

  9. Why wait for a presidential directive shouldn’t sourcing from local industries already be the law and the first traditional practice?

This backward rule of one man and rule of presidential decrees is what holds Zambia back.Lets have rule of law and rule of governing institutions instead of shambolic roadside declarations.

    • Really laughable …he clearly doesn’t understand what he is coming out from his void head. He is spending $3.5million on printing when they empty tins could have invested that selfsame money in retooling Government Printers!!

  10. Is that the president? Zambia is finished, next time he is going to give this company to make pangas, kikikiki to kill innocent people.

  11. Useless usual directives by this empty tin Lazy Bum Edgar…smart leaders create smart policies not spew nonsense on platforms!!

  12. Countrymen

Chiluba deceived this.nation claiming he was a Christian whilst stealing from zamtrop and other married women.

Lungu is stealing grand style from Euro bond money making K15 million in one year.

Another five years, he will steal over K100 million.

He doesn’t talk about the milestone he has put on next generation by the huge debts he has contracted. In next five years, if allowed, most.Zambians will be poorer cos of this debt.

  13. ***** vision less president why did you take the printing of ballot to Dubai.Whether you print them in chawama or anywhere you are going, you stupid violent person.

  14. This country now is under a command of decrees. This is really old politics of the KK era of the PIG remnants of the communist styles. The great leader has to be shown doing grand opening of facilities countrywide. Cheap popularity stunts. Stuff with no foundation for the country’s prosperity. I am sure he is yet to open a few markets and bus stops in this period. Is uncle Bob crossing the Zambezi, I wonder??????

  15. Well,I see perosnally see alot of Indians in these photos, which makes me conclude that this Company is owned by Indians. How much are these well dressed workers get paid by the Indians. If its alot then its about K600.Then you ve a the whole president going to launch a mere K600 per month of a salary to his own people. This is treacherous! One thing for sure is that Indians wont their workers any sensibly salary. So you can see how useless and cheap this fool is-Supporting peanut salaries, workers under harsh conditions.
