The Zambia National Students Union says the student body in the country is disappointed with PF leadership and the Law Association of Zambia for failing to provide leadership on the Referendum.

Prince Ndoyi the student body’s Vice President expressed disappointment with the Patriotic Front leadership and LAZ in the manner they have opted to address the issue of the Referendum.

Mr Ndoyi said it is very disheartening to hear the biggest stakeholders in the process impose a choice instead of prioritising the sensitization on the contents of the proposed Bill.

“As the Zambia National Students Union we would like to express disappointment with the Patriotic Front leadership and LAZ in the manner they have opted to address the issue of the Referendum exercise we shall be undertaking as a country alongside the general elections on August 11. We say so because it is very disheartening to hear such great stakeholders in this process beginning to impose a choice instead of prioritising the sensitization on the contents of the proposed Bill,” he said.

He said the ruling PF should prioritise sensitization of the public and reserve the right to choose to the public.

“What we all must be doing especially for the ruling party that has the resources, is conduct sensitization of the electorates and reserve the right to choose to the electorates themselves. Let us allow the people to choose independently, because it is utter nonsense to tell people to vote YES or NO for something they completely don’t know and understand fully,” he said.

He also accused the ECZ of mismanaging the process and that ample time should be given to electoral body when undertaking such a massive task.

“ECZ has mismanaged the referendum and we call on government to ensure that ample time is give to the ECZ if the country is to undertake such a massive process again. Barely a month into elections, we are still talking about lack of a comprehensive voter education on why they must vote in the referendum and what it is.

“We are calling on all civil society organizations and the church to help and sensitize the masses, as ZANASU we shall begin sensitizing our students,” he said.

  2. Much as there could be some merit in the accusation it is important for us Zambians to take ownership of these processes such as the new Constitution & the referendum on the Bill of Rights. We cant be expecting GRZ to do everything for us. This important project is not just for PF or LAZ. We will probably never have this opportunity again in future from the silence esp. from the silence from other political parties & that is why this project is critical. All of us who know how to read and write have a responsibility. GRZ & community are shouldering a big bill to educate us. Let us not be quick @ pointing fingures when the failure is ourselves the literate to bother. Have we even read both the new Constitution and the proposed Bill of Rights or we want GRZ to spoon feed us? What a bad…

    • But it is also important to teach those who can read what it is all about other than just telling them to vote yes to something they totally don’t understand. who do you think is responsible for that. On the other hand it is expensive for the majority Zambian to buy the document at cost of K200 and yet a minister who has all the resources gets it free.

  3. Hi, lately my life was way so bad that the only thing I kept thinking about is ending it. Yes I thought death would be better. Was tired of struggling & being underemployed. I have been looking for a job for a while & God had not opened any doors for me. It felt like he was punishing me for something. I needed to make more money not less. My family was falling apart nothing was working out, also my love life was not good, my husband left me for another woman saying i was cursed, there is nothing bad than seeing your kids starving and you can not do anything or buy them what they want. That is the life have been living for the last 6 years till i saw this powerful lady prof hiba on the internet, she performed a strong spiritual prayer, believe me my dear when everything seems to be…

  4. Ndoyi the only sensitisation you should call for is to let people ignore voting on the referendum altogether. Otherwise, people will be voting for rights that will hit back on us when it will be too late to correct that, given the fact that pf and law are like poles. See how Lungu is busy rigging the election and misinterpreting the constitution of the country!

  5. Just ignore the whole referendum BS.The country is not prepared for it at all and it has not been well organised. Should it fail to garner enough votes,it will be shelved.

  6. THE STUDENT’S UNION YOU HAVE SPOKEN VERY WELL. WE DON’T WANT TO VOTE FOR SOMETHING WE DO NOT KNOW BY JUST SAY YES OR NO MAYBE ITS BAD THINGS YOU ARE VOTING FOR LIKE GAY RIGHTS, MAYBE TO BE RULED BY THE DEVIL HIMSELF WE NEVER KNOW, COZ THESE THINGS ARE VERY DANGEROUS. RIGHT NOW THE DEVIL IS AT WORK A LOT HAS HAPPENED, SO I URGE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA TO SAY NO TO THIS REFERENDUM UNTIL WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE VOTING FOR.
