ActionAid Zambia has observed that only the Green Party has a clear manifesto which spells out how financing for various development projects will be undertaken.

ActionAid Zambia Country Director Nalucha Ziba said in an interview that a study of the manifestos of all the parties taking part in next month’s general election revealed that only the Green Party has a clear financing road map.

Ms Ziba noted that most of the political parties are promising to carry out grand infrastructure development programmes without spelling out where the financing will come from.

She said her organisation has taken time to study the manifestos and has noted that almost all of them have serious question marks on financing options.

“They are all telling us they will build roads and clinics and schools but they are not telling us where the money will come from. If you examine the UPND’s Ten-Point Plan, you will agree that it is silent on the key issues of sources of financing and the same goes for the PF,” Ms. Ziba said.

She said political parties should take a leaf from the Green Party that a clearly spelt out plan on how it would be financing its development plan.

“At least the Green Party has been clear about its source of money. In its presentations, it has said it will generate about US$20 billion through its marijuana commercialisation project and that amount of money should be adequate to fund a massive infrastructure drive,” she said.

She added, “What we want to hear as stakeholders is where the money will come from. Remember, the PF has already taken up our international debt portfolio to around US$7 billion so there isn’t any room for further borrowing and when you look at internal revenues, we are not collecting as much as we do and these are the issues we want our politicians to speak to.”

  1. Yes GREEN PARTY will always be green, very brilliant ideas yogulisa dobo, can action AIDS sponsor a LIVE DEBATES OF all the PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES PLEASE AND SIMILARY FOR VICE PRESIDENTS I WANT TO SEE gbm AND inonge tackle it out on ISSUE BASED MATTERS

    • Zambians do not want to know the details. Zambians believed Satan and his 90 day plan for more money in the pockets, more jobs, no shanties, no powercuts etc. Five years later none of the promises has been delivered. No party will waste its time telling facts nobody wants to hear or know. That’s why the Green Party is going nowhere. If ActionAid wants to campaign for the Greens, they can go ahead and waste their time. Good luck.

    • Their chamba is quite powerful. After smoking it you have no option but to see sense in their manifesto.

    • As long as this is done on commercial basis, no problem. The gvt should also come up with very tough laws to deter people from abusing it. Afghanistan’s major export is Opium which is also a drug. The country generate millions of dollars from this crop. Why do you Zambians want to be controlled by the western rules. This marijuana thing is workable and very profitable as long as it is done at commercial level . If i am to ask you to give 5 serious reasons why you keep condemning Green party on this policy. The fact is you have been brainwashed by the western rules. You cant think beyond your nose. Keep it up GP

  2. So this selfsame green party has already figured out which market will trade with his selfsame government? Yes this can make a lucrative business if sold as a raw material and if it had a ready legal market in the Eu or Asia, unfortunately that is not how the world works unless you smoke weed like Louise Linton that is when you can have such a fantasy. If you think yoursefsame will be processing it into products, then that is another story. This selfsame aid group should base it’s study of manifestos on both global and economic trends.Revealing how a government will sponsor economic activities is tantamount to giving ammunition to your opponents to disseminate your manifesto. You selfsame activists should know better.#JayJay lies

    I thankyou

    • Check this poor Zambians……

Prescription drug prices continue to climb, putting the pinch on consumers. Some older Americans appear to be seeking an alternative to mainstream medicines that has become easier to get legally in many parts of the country.

Research published Wednesday found that states that legalized medical marijuana — which is sometimes…

  3. HO HO HO they can as well commercialise the sell of SLAVES since there are more people in Zambia than marijuana. The problem of NGOs in Zambia is that anything can be called an NGO

  4. ActionAid, in your thinly veiled bid to discredit the PF you forgot to mention that the US$7billion is a national debt and not a PF debt. In the likely event that Upnd won the elections their government would take over that debt but they have not mentioned where the money for their 10 point plan would come from, how they would pay back the 7 billion, or even how they would fund the free universal education that they are promising, the cheaper mealie meal. They are not even talking about how they would avoid subsidies in food, fuel and others which the IMF demands befire they help a country out of debt. ActionAid, or maybe you need economic nanager to help you lie your way out of this quandary that I have posed for you. Or maybe Anglo American will come and settle the bill for Upnd before…

  5. ActionAid or no ActionAid prompt, i will not join the beautiful young lady Nalucha Ziba in smoking the weed.
And I would rather continue with PF who understans the real issues rather than those who can only imagine things and only see easy solutions to our poverty when what we require is to continue with hard work and not HH.

  6. Please remind, is this the party that wants to legalize the smoking ? of dagger / marijuana? If it is then, they have my spoiled vote.

    • Its God given a holy weed u fooool….nothing wrong with smoking or drinking dobo tea or eating . . . .eg All my great great grand fathers lived in Year 1000BC to current smoked or smoke dobo. Recent proof SATA used to smoke with FTJ & Mpezeni….

  7. That’s what ganja can do, u just smoke & go to sleep. U finish a manifesto on paper, u agree with each other ati “elibwino te?”. Then u o agree as u smoke. Then u leave it on the table as u sleep some mo, no marketing

  8. You guys are all missing the point… Lets not blog for the sake of it. The lady is not in any way supporting the philosophy of the Green Party but rather the road map which has been taken by the party. Its clear to see how they are going to tackle the financial challenges (despite in a wrong way) or rather how they are going to generate revenue. In all fairness, these political parties we are supporting are not inspiring, they dont give hope. For once we should blog with a sobber mind and remove the cadre mentality

  9. Zambians don’t need the 5W+H for them to vote for you. The candidate/party with more slogans gets the majority vote. We are not ready for democracy.

  10. Ones we zambian start analysing issues that affect the nation we will stop wasting time discrediting the opinion of others. I feel so bad to read the comments all the media of Zambia bcoz no one talks purely on how to bring our country out of poverty but only arguments. Each day Lungu this, Hichilema this. Why have we taken hatred like food? If I was given a choice to choose which country to belong to I would not settle for Zambia as of today. When are we going to be ourselves?

  11. Good work green party.at least u have a feasible plan.let cadres bark.but stick tto the vision, its take it or leave it,u r now in contention 4 my vote.Good luck.
