Former Movement for Multi-party and Democracy President Nevers Mumba’s application to challenge the newly elected party President Felix Mutati in the Lusaka High Court has been thrown out by Lusaka High Court Judge Shapi Phiri.
Dr Mumba has continued to hold on to hope that the courts would hand him back the party even after he deliberately chose to abstain from a constitutional requirement of party general convention every 5 years. The former party leader refused to accept the out come of the convention which elected Mr Mutati as the leader of the party.
The Registrar of Societies has since recognized Mr Mutati and the newly elected NEC members as the legitimate office bearers of the MMD something that enraged the embattled former President of the party leading to his faction sueing the Registrar of Societies through his appointed National Secretary Rev Ruben Sambo.
Judge Shapi Phiri has since ruled that Mr Mutati and the new NEC were the legitimate leaders of the MMD as they had furnished the Registrar of Societies with the relevant requirements in the aftermath of the Party convention.
The judge also noted that Dr Mumba had deliberately decided not to provide evidence that the Registrar of Societies had recognized the Mutati led dully elected National Executive Committee as the legitimate office bearers of the party.
Meanwhile MMD National National Youth Chairperson Dauzen Tembo, has said this ruling has now finally put to rest the unwarranted debate on who the legitimate President for MMD is.
Mr Tembo also warned the media to desist from referring to “any one on the streets as MMD President” saying “We believe the media have now been given guidance by the courts on who the legitimate leader of the party is.”
“There is no faction in the MMD, so let Dr. Mumba now join the UPND as an individual, as the MMD we are resolved to rebuild our party from the poor leadership we had in the former leader, Mr Tembo further said the Daily Nation News paper committed no offence in calling Dr. Mumba as a former MMD president.”

The unceremonious-like natural sacking of Nevers is no doubt good for the MMD and could bring some hope in the once vibrant party. In as much as it is good to have MMD around like the UNIP, it was heavily immoral for NSM through his selfish nature to have wanted to pull MMD completely down. The support of Mutati’s MMD for President Lungu is what will change the game. Mutati and RB have the bigger share of MMD. Last presidential bye election, Mutati had supported HH and RB supported Lungu. That’s why you saw the tight result between HH and Lungu. Now with both Mutati and RB supporting Lungu, President Lungu is destined for clear victory, make no mistake.
I disagree…..the economy is ruined, Lungu has looted K15m, PF lawlessness has skyrocketed just like groceries and corruption. So has debt, mealie meal, saladi, unemployment, taxes, rentals, sugar.

UPND members open your eyes, HH has driven your party over the cliff. With RB and Mutati both supporting ECL, that margin you enjoyed last election will not be there.
