President Edgar Lungu says conceding defeat in elections in most African countries is still a huge challenge.

President Lungu noted that most opposition political parties in Africa and Zambia in particular refuse to accept election results

The Head of State said for instance that the opposition UPND has already declared itself winners ahead of the August 11 polls and will not accept anything to the contrary.

President Lungu said this in Lusaka today when a group of four Election observer teams paid a courtesy call on him at State House.

The missions comprised of former president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan under the African Union Elections Observation Mission (AUEOM) , Cassam Uteen, former President of Mauritius, under the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) Observer Mission, Ibrahim Gambani ,Special Envoy of the President of Nigeria and Cecile Kyenge ,chief observer for the European Union Observer Mission.

President Lungu advised all political parties in the country to know that there is life beyond being in State House.

The Head of State wondered why some political parties have gone further to state that they will not accept the Presidential results if they are not in their favour.

President Lungu said in a few hours , Zambians will choose their candidate and as Head of State he has ensured that there is a levelled playing field.

He said he is committed to giving Zambians a free, fair and credible election, which will enable citizens chose their leaders freely.

The Head of State said he has confidence in the election observers that have been sent in the country, as it will also show the world how democratic Zambia is.

The President said he is happy that most of the election monitoring teams comprise former government officials who know how it feels to being in State House.

Meanwhile African Union Elections Observation Mission Leader Goodluck Jonathan said Zambia is known worldwide as a haven of Peace.

Mr. Jonathan said very few countries can match Zambia’s record of peaceful elections and expressed optimism that the record will be maintained.

He has since appealed to President Lungu to remain magnanimous and accept everyone in the country regardless of which party they belong to.

Mr. Jonathan said his team is in the country not to look for faults but to ensure that the elections are held in a peaceful manner.

And former President of Mauritius Cassam Uteen, who is leading the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA), thanked President Lungu for welcoming the election observers.

Mr. Uteen said Zambia is generally a peaceful country and he would love that peace is maintained before during and after elections.

He said leaders must provide the necessary support to all political parties and the electoral body to ensure smooth elections

Meanwhile , President Lungu is scheduled to address three major rallies today in Ndola rural, said his spokesman Amos Chanda in an official timetable released to the media.

Today, Tuesday 9th August, President Lungu will hold rallies in the following areas in Ndola rural in Masaiti at 15:00 hrs, Mpongwe at 15: 45 hrs and Lufwanyama at 16: 30 hrs.

President Lungu will then move to Kitwe where he will have a radio program that shall be streamed live to other radio stations across the country and beyond the borders to those that have internet radio.

During the radio programme, the head of state is expected to discuss some of his governments major development achievements such as the heavy multi-billion dollar investment in the energy sector, agriculture development etc.

The programme, because of its huge magnitude is also expected to be monitored by the state broadcaster, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) television and radio.

Local and foreign media are free to tune into this important programme that will commence at 7 am and end at 8 am.

President Lungu is expected back in Lusaka where he will close his country wide marathon tour with a Mega Rally at Woodlands stadium.

According to the statement, Woodlands stadium area bears a nostalgic feeling for the President of Zambia. It is at Woodlands Stadium Open Grounds where the party held its final rally. It is also the place President Lungu made a passionate call to be elected.

And the President has continued to urge Zambians, especially members of political parties to maintain peace and unity before and after elections.

    • In a competitive battle, there can only be one winner of the ruling mandate. Those defeated have the credible ConCourt to seek a final verdict. The Concourt has set an excellent living precedence. All the best to all parties in the race. Remember, beyond thos campaign season there is Zambia to preserve. Fellow professionals post elections, let’s get back to our vocations of making money and opportunities for others needing hope.

    • Senile Citizen

Aren’t you the one who daily has been raining obscenities and purveying apartheid commentaries against your candidate’s opponent.

If you are really as old as you suggest, you should by now have checked the barometer and gauged that times they are a changing. Lungu by default of President’s office HAS to attrack big crowds…trappings of State power.

But it is when you hear people now brazenly saying we have been oppressed enough and are waiting for Thursday to make our votes count. This is what almost all the traders along (name withheld) market told me today when I went to buy necessities.

    • HH & UPND should celebrate victory peacefully. No more slapping of PF cadres.
Edgar fairwell man, you did what you could. Go claim your K5billion like RB, if you want put it on one cheque the 2 of you.

    • That is a small number to attend an incumber’s rally…., Lungu is losing and will not be “allowed” to steal an election when he loses in 2 days time. There will be NO case for the constitutional court to rule on. Besides, this court on rules on constitutional matters lol

    • Edgar is very safe. He is winning in first round. Hope UPND will not waste time going to courts. PF is winning in 7 of the 10 provinces. Nega-nega formular will not work this time around. I spent the last three days in Southern Province. All indications are PF will harvest more votes there that ever befor

    • Come to Zambia and you will know Edgar Lungu is winning these elections. Big mistake for desperate HH to choose the fat ape GBM as running mate. Even educated Tonga people refuse to endorse HH for choosing a fat, dull, dirty mouth spoken person like GBM. That’s why people are voting wisely for EL and Mama I once.
PF have already won. Just come to Zambia and see for yourself

    • EL is winning.
He is assured landslide victory in 7 provinces. People have seen the desperation on HH and his supporters.

    • EL is stealing the election and not winning it. Look where the Zambian economy is now. Look what has happened to the mines that is simply evidence of how bad a manager this guy is. So Zambians voting for Lungu tommorow are simply selling out their future and that of their children. You will be stuck for 5-10 years with a moronic, power hungry ***** who does not know whether he is going or coming. Now wonder he bunks the Presidential debates – THE GUY SIMPLE HAS NOTHING TO SAY TO THE ZAMBIANS! If you can’t see through this you will never see nothing in your life ever!

  1. There goes the Empty Colossal Liar (ECL) of 2016. Zambians have rejected him. He is on his last farewell tour.

    • Chawama people prepare the place you will be drinking with the 2016 most incompetent and 1diotic president of the millennium Edgar chakolwa Kaloba hangover Wrungu. We need sanity in state house Vote UPND VOTE HH.

    • No my friend, Zambian’s have rejected the under 5 HH since 2006. It will be the same in 2016. If you are abroad come and see what’s on the ground in Zambia. You’ll see this will be HH time to step down and give another person to head UPND. However will notorious GBM allow anyone but himself to take over as Leader? HH is in trouble

  2. Quite a fairly small crowd when one looks at the peripherals as seen in the last picture. There is a sense of change even among the international observers:-). Change to allow for economic managers with plans to avoid the IMF pending package as brought upon us by PF, to our shame!

    • And that loser will be YOU.!!!!!

Remember these words of yours after the votes are counted!

NO NONSENSE. NO BULL SHlT. Just go quietly and crawl back into the hole you came from!

    • This is how the elections will be lost and won

  3. After 11th August 2016, we shall be celebrating UPND’s 18 years in opposition and planning big for its 20th years in opposition in two years time.

  4. (HH) Hap Hazard has lost again, there is no hope for him this year. He should concede defeat because we are winning with 64% of votes.

We know he will petition the results as usual but by that time GBM will be heading UPND.

    Go PF! Sonta po!

  5. Why would Zambians vote back into office a bunch of thieves who have little regard for our constitution. Even when they felt uncomfortable none of them had the courage to step down and do the right thing. Now they are in a corner. Ba Lungu thinks he can play with our lives like Kalusha kicking a ball on the football pitch. The deteriotion of all systems in this country will require serious leadership to repair. A Lungu has shown that he is not capable to provide that leadership.

  6. Voting “in a few hours”? Does the President know what day it is or has the Jameson party already started?

  7. UPND AND ITS KAPONYAS ARE DAY DREAMING,H.H WILL NEVER MAKE IT TO PLOT IN 2016,HE SHOULD WAIT FOR 2021 MAYBE BECAUSE PF IS GOING TO SWALLOW THIS SMALL UPND LIKE A SHARK SWALLING KAPENTAS.E.L LUNGU WILL DEFINATLEY BE IN PLOT NUMVBWER 1 UNTIL 2021.MY PREDICTION IS PF ARE GETTING NOTHING LESS THAN 65% OF VOTES .ZAMBIANS HAVE SEEN WHAT PF HAS DONE IUN 5 YEARS WHICH M.M.D FAILED IN 20 YEARS OF RULE.VIVA PRESIDENT EL. LUNGU VIVA PF ,WE ARE WITH YOU ON THURSDAY.FRIDAY WILL A BIG CELEBRATION FOR THE PRESIDENTS SWEARING IN CEROMONY AT HEROS STADIUM SORRY MR H.H. NOT THIS TIME BUT KEEP HOPEING FOR THE BEST IN 2021

  8. @Nzelu

It’s easy enough and Zambians have demonstrated that a couple of times already when they asked KK to give way and when they ejected RB recently.

  9. Edgar is surely winning. HH should just prepare and accept defeat peacefully. Who can vote for GBM his running mate?

  10. Keep on sensitising Mr. President these perpetual losers to accept the verdict of Zambians. As per their tradition, they have declared themselves victors even before we cast our votes.

  11. “The President said he is happy that most of the election monitoring teams comprise former government officials who know how it feels to being in State House.”

What does it mean? Is he indicating State House is so sweet to leave it just yet?

  12. IN OTHER WORDS, HH MUST CONCEDE DEFEAT AFTER 8/11.
    =====================================
Hetch Hetch and GBV-M will be embarrassed when the people of this beloved country once again put a stop to spooky and bitter HH and his violent cliques. It will soon dawn on HH that Zambians can not be fooled by empty and irrelevant promises. HH has failed to bring new ideas to the political podium making Edith Nawakwi (EN) more credible, experienced and reasonable. EN emerged winner of the Muvi TV arranged debates owing to the mature and articulate answers on issues dogging this nation politically than weird HH.

  15. It seems the presidents unsober brain doesn’t even for a second consider the possibility that HE could and probably will be that loser.

    • Not possible bwana. ECL can’t lose. He has done his ground work well and we Zambians are just waiting to cast the votes in his favour on Thursday. HH must be terribly worried. Viva ECL, Viva PF.

  16. Kudos to everyone on these comments. Now it’s time to put on your voting shoes and be heard through the ballot, peacefully!

    #Zambia2016

  17. THIS IS WHAT LUNGU THE LAWYER SAIUD WHEN HE REFUSED MINISTERS TO STEP DOWN.
“Shame to those people who don’t read. I beg you people to read. People are debating things they don’t know.”
We want our money back. Shame to you Mr. President what dull lawyer are you.

  18. When one is 100 percent correct with his/ her political predictions what does that tell us? As one of the few commentators on this Lsk Times to have a clear record of being 100 percent correct on all my predictions for now over 5 years (no jokes the facts are in the archives as proof e.g I predicted ECL even before nominations would become President, I predicted Guy Scott would betray PF as far back as 2014, I predicted GBM would resign from PF when he was minister of Defence. I predicted the fall of the Cartel even when HEMCS was alive) now I hereby predict ECL is winning these elections even if it goes to a second round we are still winning it.

  19. Lungu is STEALING this election why is it all about the opposition conceding defeat and not PF and himself. This is the same operandi used by Mugabe in 2013 when he claimed he will concede defeat only to steal the election from Morgan Tsvangirai. Today he hallucinates all by himself that Tsvangirai won the election by 70 something percent. Lungu you will have to be careful is a student of Mugabe and l can tell you Zambians if we dont wake up we are going downhill like Zimbabwe very soon. This guy is a power-hungry maggot and will stop at nothing to remain in power. See how he decimated his opponents only to become the PF candidate when Sata died. It tells you the length he will go to be in power.
