Zesco United semifinal passage to the 2016 CAF Champions League has been confirmed.

This is after Wydad Casablanca beat bottom placed ASEC Mimosa from Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 on Sunday at home in Morocco

With a game to spare, Wydad win Group A on 10 points while Zesco will finish second ahead of Al Ahly of Egypt, who have 5 points, due to a better head-to-head over the latter.

Zesco, on 8 points, drew 2-2 away on Friday with Al Ahly whom they beat 3-2 in tie first leg in Ndola on June 18.

This is the first time a Zambian club has qualified to the CAF Champions League semifinals to see Zesco set another milestone in the competition.

Zesco was also the first Zambian club to qualify to the group stage in continental club football after qualifying for the 2009 edition of the same event.

  1. Wonders shall never end. How can Wydad win the group with 10 points and are yet to play Zesco (on 8 points) in the last match?

  2. @Chimfwembe-I was thinking like that too. I’m just wondering about this kind of reporting. It’s very possible for Zesco to win the group especially that they are at home in the last game

  3. The biggest mistake I’ve seen LT make – and I’ve seen it quite a few times – is to assume that you know what’s going on. This is pure laziness. YOU ARE LAZY OoooH SHAME!!!!

  4. Congratulations my boys keep the faith just as we did with PF victory so it shau be with you in this competition. God bless…!

  5. What an achievement for ZESCO and belies the conventional wisdom that only expatriate coaches can do well for African football. Wasn’t Al Ahly of Egypt trained by the famous Martin Jol of the Netherlands whilst ZESCO is led by George Lwandamina, a local product? Come on FAZ even your new coach, Gordon Igesund was fired by Bafana Bafana for poor results !! Let us invest in our own coaches.

    • Hit them Bro! I think these people need to work up and start trusting their own, I am proud to be a Zambian even though I am in the diaspora.

    • FAZ has to think twice regarding hiring of a couch otherwise we will never achive anything from what they are doing
Our own local fellows can do better than that guy they are getting.
We only or FAZ needs to put 3 or 4 of our own coaches together .
Sit them down so that they agree modalities of the task ahead.
Let’s learn from Nigeria and others that have achieved before our eyes in African
What matters mostly is how you look after the persons you bring in.

  6. Arabs teams are strong and worste alot of times when they scored first .Mamelodi Sundowns suits Zesco united better. please zesco get 2 place
