UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has called for peace, unity and development following the August 2016 elections.
Stressing the importance of remaining peaceful at this sensitive time, Mr. Hichilema has condemned all forms of violence regardless of provocation.
“If you support UPND, please stop the violence. If you support PF, FDD, UNIP, Rainbow or any other party, please stop the violence. As UPND we encourage all victims to report criminal behaviour to the police, and at the same time we call on all members of Zambia Police force to protect each and every citizens, regardless of political affiliation.”
On unity, President Mr Hichilema asked whom Zambians will unite with, if they do not unite among themselves.
“Through the love of God, through intermarriage of our people and through the sacrifice of our founding fathers we are one Zambia, one nation.”
He called on UPND supporters to take centre stage in fostering unity in this country.
“Call your enemy, talk to them and let them know that it is unity we want in Zambia; shake hands, eat with them, laugh with them and above all pray with them. I refuse to be used as a scapegoat in bringing divisions in the country. That is why today I am calling upon all the men, women and youth to stand up and unite in support of our once democratic and peaceful nation”, said Hichilema.
President Mr Hichilema further stressed that peace and unity remain essential for development that will see children in school, food on the table and jobs for youths. He called for hard work and a focus on reducing poverty, saying “Rome was not built in a day, but with determination and focus our economy will flourish again and we must share the rewards among our people as the surest way of securing unity.”

President Hichilema is a very wise man. I worked with him in the Private sector and he is a very approachable and kind person. I am Bemba and no body had any issues with him.
