CHIPATA Diocese Catholic Bishop George Lungu has appealed to the Government to serious steps in the fight against corruption.

Bishop Lungu said that corruption was very high in most of the Government departments.

He said that vulnerable youths were finding it difficult to access the much needed services and employment because there was no one to push for their applications.

Bishop Lungu was speaking during the 50th Anniversary for Chadiza’s Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, which was also attended by Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo over the weekend He disclosed that he has been receiving youths in his office begging him to speak on their behalf so that they could get employed by the Government.

“The future of those who do not have relatives in Government is being destroyed because they cannot access jobs due to corruption,”he said.

Speaking at the same function, Chief Zingalume of the Chewa people in of Chadiza district called on traffic police officers to be professional in their work.

The traditional leader said that he has received a lot of reports from his subjects concerning some police officers harassing motorists.

Chief Zingalume said traffic police officers go round in villages to look for motorbikes and vehicles to impound.

The traditional leader stated that he had decided to speak openly in the presence of Permanent Secretary so that action could be taken.

He said that his subjects were poor and cannot afford to pay the fines adding that they were no longer free with their properties.

Chief Zingalume appealed to Mr Kasolo to caution the traffic police officers against being unprofessional while conducting their work.

The traditional leader also called on the Government to quickly work on roads in the district, which he said were in a poor state.

And Mr Kasolo said he would engage the Ministry of Finance so that they release the money towards the tarring projects.

Mr Kasolo said that the Government was aware of the bad road network in Chadiza and was doing everything possible to address the situation.

He said the stalled road projects included the Chipata-Chadiza-Chanida-Katete road and Chipata-Vubwi –Chadiza roads which needed to be worked on.

Mr Kasolo advised the people of Chadiza to take keen interest in church activities so that they could refrain from bad vices like execcive beer drinking.

He said that Government would continue partnering with the church in bringing development to people especially in rural areas.

    • Corruption cannot be controlled in Zambia at the moment because the architects of corruption are the same ones who are supposed to curb the vice. When you have a cadre in charge it is to expect miracles if you expect good governance.

    • NOT RELATED TO THE TOPIC BUT IT IS A WEAKNESS OF EVIL LUST AND JUST LIKE YOU HAVE A WEAKNESS OF NOT HEARING THE TRUTH. HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT ONLY IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH BUT IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE WORLD AND THESE PEOPLE EVEN HAVE RIGHTS. YOU CANNOT CONDEMN THE WHOLE CHURCH FOR THE SICK WEAKNESS OF A FEW JUST LIKE WE CANNOT SAY ALL ZAMBIANS ARE CORRUPT. ANWER UNDERSTOOD?

    • Why shouldn’t a cop make some money when Lungu in one year stole over K10 million.

      Chiwamina galu……?

Go on cops make them cash from these people supporting a corrupt thief in state house. Use all tricks to milk money from them.

  1. How do you expect corruption to end when funding in government departments is almost non-existent? Meanwhile others are chartering luxurious planes to America. It is just but a dream to think corruption can end. If we have to sacrifice let all of us sacrifice starting from the most “superior” citizens.

  2. I almost went into a self destruction mode after most of my fellow former students found jobs in zesco while I tried hard to get in but to no avail. I decided to flee the country .Though this gave me the opportunity to travel to many countries, still i feel very bad that l’m not in my country with my family and my fellow nationals. However I will always wish my beloved zambia well, and hope that one day I can find something to do and stop being a foreigner. As such I plead to the president to take corruption fight very seriously for it will not only rob from us what is rightfully ours but will also completely destroy the legacy that he seemingly desire to leave to the zambians . Good health to my beloved Zambia!

  3. It pains to hear people accusing State House of corruption is just next door to us. For example during the elections officers were asking for 50kwacha from the 250kwacha paid to those hired to help with the elections. If this is not corruption what is it. FRA officials are continuously asking us into deals on maize sales. Thank God we many buyers around this year.
