The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has written to Samsung Electronics SA (PTY) LTD- Zambia Branch requesting them to come up with interventions and indicate to the Authority how best Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be withdrawn from the Zambian market.

In a statement, ZICTA said Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a factory defect as the affected device can overheat and pose a safety risk.

Samsung Electronics Corporation has announced a recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in countries where the device has been launched.

“Although the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has not yet been officially launched in Zambia, ZICTA has written officially to Samsung Electronics SA (PTY) LTD- Zambia Branch requesting them to come up with interventions and indicate to the Authority how best the device will be withdrawn from the Zambian market, bearing in mind that some Zambian consumers may have purchased the device from other markets where the product had been launched” ZICTA said.

In order to ensure safety of the consumers, ZICTA is urging all consumers with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to visit the authorised Samsung Electronic Service Partner outlets in Zambia.

    • But Samsung announced a recall of those phones globally. If one bought one of the phones just take it back where you bought it from. Ba ZICTA balibe nchinto.

    • I thought Samsung recalled all the the pieces for for note 7; what are the zambian dealers still doing? They should have stopped selling by now.

    • @peace4zambia – Hasn’t officially been launched in zambia, all note 7 currently available are GREY MARKET and therefore outside Zicta’s jurisdiction or liability from Samsung, as all phones have already been recalled from all markets. This is pointless posturing.

  1. Zicta pretending to do some work! These pretenders who spend all their time blocking social media, especially ZWD, is just a centre for jobs for the boys.

  2. Ba ZICTA we have bigger problems you need to sort out and you are quick to look at a product which hasnt been released in Zambia. Get serous

    • Yeah, i thought time for bitter politics is over in Zambia, anyway what more do we expect from the under 5 with the measles campaign on now? Children are making noise country wide wherever you go, the under 5 are busy crying its normal during this measles /rubella campaign.

  3. ZICTA a customer can simply go to the offices and swap the phone…why dont you write to the network providers to reduce tarriffs as well.

  4. If you cant afford one it is just to remain with your siemens or bosch phone and not come up with a universal withdrawal just because someone is broke and envious

  5. Zicta, do you really need to write to them or you need to order them not to launch that product? Safety is paramount especially when it comes to device and gadgets like phones which everyone uses almost on a daily basis. Be proactive in policy executions.

  6. This is when you are requesting to have it withdrawn, other countries have already done that, and clients given knew phones.. Please hurry.

  7. Ba ZICTA you are just too late on this one. Copy and paste arguments sometimes do not make sense. Just read what I have also copied and pasted here below:

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has approved the sale of Samsung’s new and improved Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in the US, and they’re now available for sale at carrier retail stores. Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint have all confirmed that the Samsung phablet is being sold again in stores, and AT&T told The Verge that it too will begin selling the phone again soon.

Samsung said that it had shipped 500,000 safe Galaxy Note 7 handsets to the US, though it is currently unclear how many potentially faulty units were initially sold before sales of the phone were halted earlier this month. Consumers who purchased the original…

Samsung said that it had shipped 500,000 safe Galaxy Note 7 handsets to the US, though it is currently unclear how many potentially faulty units were initially sold before sales of the phone were halted earlier this month. Consumers who purchased the original phones have been very slow to return or exchange them, however, which could help explain why the Note 7 is back on sale much sooner than expected.
