Some of the computers handed over to Namuseba Primary School in Monze District today by Zambia National Building Society (ZNBS) in a bid to complement government’s efforts to spearhead Information, communication and Technology (ICTs) learning in schools.
Government has procured three hundred computers in readiness for Information Communication Technology (ICT) examinations for grade nine pupils in Eastern Province.

Provincial Education Officer Allan Lingambe says the procurement of
the computers is aimed at addressing the shortage of computers during last year’s examinations.

Dr Lingambe says the computers are part of the consignment of 3,000 computers that have been procured by the Ministry of Education for provision to schools countrywide.

He noted that the Ministry with support from other stakeholders have also procured additional computers to cushion the shortages that emanate during ICT examinations.

And the provincial education officer added that Eastern Province will have adequate computers for usage in this year’s examinations and expressed confidence that there will be no challenges with regard to
ICT exams this year.

He also revealed says some schools already have computers and the 300 will only beef up on the number of computers among schools in the province.

He explains that every school has a minimum of seven computers and can conduct examinations.

Dr Lingambe further revealed that the examinations will be scheduled according to the number of question papers for a particular day and the available computers.

Meanwhile, Government has distributed twenty-nine new computers worth One hundred and seventy-four thousand kwacha to Luangwa district.

Receiving the computers on behalf of the school administration, District Education Board Secretary Charity Lungu said the new equipment will improve information systems among the learners.

Ms Lungu told ZANIS in Luwingu district that the computers will be distributed to Njoko primary school, Laurent Chita primary school and Shimumbi secondary school in Lubansenshi constituency.

She said each school will receive nine computers each despite them not having been connected to the national grid.

And Ms revealed that the named schools will rely on the solar panels and the Honda generators as a source of power.

Meanwhile Ms Lungu has thanked Lupososhi Member of Parliament Lazarus Bwalya for his commitment in the education sector through the constructing of five by two classroom blocks and two teachers’ houses in his constituency.

She said the construction of more classroom blocks in Lupososhi constituency has seen an increase in the enrolment of more pupils in the district.
