Luampa Acting District Commissioner, Ernest Mwanangombe, says independence celebrations would be meaningless for Luampa residents without the massive development that has been achieved by the Patriotic Front Government in the district.

Mr Mwangan’ombe was speaking during the independence celebrations at Luampa district administration grounds today.

He pointed out a number of achievements by the Patriotic Front government such as infrastructure, agriculture and social services.

Mr Mwanangombe also congratulated politicians in Luampa district for maintaining peace during the recently-held general elections.

Meanwhile, Chief Mwenetete has observed that Luampa has some freedom fighters such as Kashiwa Mutiama who were imprisoned together with Jethro Muti who was the Member of the Central Committee for United National Independence Party (UNIP).

Chief Mwenetete called on the youths to carry on from the freedom fighters by working towards developing Luampa district.

“Let me also call for peace and unity in our district and the country at large; let no tribe or region separate us because we are one people,” Chief Mwenetete said.

He noted that had it not been the unity the freedom fighters had, Zambia could not have achieved impendence in 1964.

Chief Mwenetete said the poverty that the country is experiencing can only be fought through unity and hard work.

Luampa district celebrated Independence in style with cultural dances, modelling and cultural presentations in Silozi, Nkoya Chokwe, Luchazi
and Mbunda.

Traditional leaders, including Chief Siwalyondo, Chief Mwenetete, Chief Afumba and Chief Kanguya were also present.

  1. As it is now Chingola-Kitwe road and all Chingola roads are pathetic. Chingola – Solwezi road also not done. I wonder how Chingola voted PF.

  2. Christian people be like “only god can save you”. Reality people be like “god my ass, money don’t fall from the sky”.

  3. Rome was very well developed under the tyranny called Julius Caesar which prompted Marcus Brutus to say : “By the gods I would rather be a dog than such a Roman “. The Colonial government ensured everything was orderly by using brutal force. Fishing was controlled, streets were labeled and had public phones. Villagers had to get permission to come to town therefore controlling rural urban migration and avoid shanty compounds. Unemployed adults were arrested and parents who failed to send their children were punished. Those whose houses were not clean faced the wrath of the township officer. Free food was given to families.

    • continued ….miners children used to get milk, orange, beans and soup every weekend at clinics popularly known as “amazalapwiti “. But we were not happy and decided to for self rule. We abandoned everything colonial even positive ones. Development has failed to take root not because of failure by government but because of us who are supposed to carry out these tasks. More often we support a particular party because we hope to be rewarded as individuals.
