President Edgar Lungu has described the election of Mr Adama Barrow as President of the Islamic Republic of the Gambia, as a demonstration of the strength and inherent value of democracy that exists in that country.

President Lungu, who has sent a message of congratulations to the President-elect Mr Barrow, stated that the people of Gambia have spoken, as a confirmation of their trust and confidence in Mr Barrow’s vision to lead the nation to another level.

President Lungu assured that the President-elect should count on Zambia’s support to consolidate the gains of democracy in Gambia.

The President noted that Zambia and the Gambia share a lot in common including being members of the Commonwealth, African Union, as well as Zambia playing a part in exporting legal, academic and wildlife professionals to that country.

The President said Zambia is proud of the smooth power transition taking place in Gambia and pledged its commitment to maintaining and enhancing the warm relations that the two countries continue to enjoy for the mutual benefit of their peoples.

“I wish to convey, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Zambia, and indeed on my own behalf, sincere congratulations on your historic election as President of the Islamic Republic of the Gambia,” the President said.

President Lungu also commended the outgoing President, Mr. Yahya Jammeh for graciously conceding defeat by offering unconditional support and the necessary political space to the new administration to move the country forward.

The President said Mr Jammeh’s gracious acceptance of the will of the people and prompt call to his supporters to accept the outcome of the election is a sure way of creating the necessary condition for national healing and reconciliation.

  1. He just got scared, the ending of west and North African dictators is a scary movie, only those who have handed over power after elections have survived,it’s a gamble for him, one big gamble, there was nothing gracious about his acceptance of the results.

    • Can someone be anymore dull than Lungu. His election is the exact opposite to what happened in Gambia. He is better off keeping quiet.

    • The Gambian Election Commission used their heads and used mere marbles, using resources they have…they are not lazy dunderheads like at ECZ who were busy looking for US dollars to throw at the problem.

  2. This hypocrite, brutal viper, white washed tomb a sadist who deserves no place in African politics. He really does not have any moral fiber in him. The people of Zambian had spoken and what did he do? He does not deserve to be called president

  3. Adama Harrow won the election. He is leader of the Opposition and a Businessman. Back home in Zambia Edward after realising that he had lost the Election he decided to steal the vote from HH the leader of UPND and also a Businessman. Edward refused to concede defeat and went on to block the Petetion from being heard in Concourt. To date the Petetion is still in the Courts pending a Hearing. Edward is a shameless hyporite who pretends to be a Democrat when he is an upcoming dictator. Edward must be embarrassed to congratulate Adama Harrow for winning the election in Gambia when he knows he stole the election in Zambia and is an illegitimate President in Zambia. The UPND Petetion is haunting Edward and the sooner this Petetion is heard the better for Edward and Zambia. Until this Petetion…

  4. This utterly Lazy Bum Edgar has no shame whatsoever, absolutely no shame…simply look at Gambia’s unique voting system …the Gambian voters were not using traditional foreign ballot papers printed for $3m by some foreign printer, but a unique voting system with marbles.
Lazy Lungu please just focus on your trip to RSA you lazy waste of space!!

  5. For Edward’s information Gambia is not a member of the Commonwealth. Just like Mugabe ,Jammeh took Gambia out of the Commonwealth and ICC. The Winner of Gambia Election, Adama Harrow wants Gambia to re-join the Commonwealth. Lungu cannot claim to be a Democrat when there is a Petition in Courts contesting his re-election. Lungu must have a sense of shame and dispose off the Petetion without further delay.Until Lungu proves in Court that he genuinely won the August 2016 Election he will remain illegitimate in the eyes of Zambians and the International Community.Lungu needs to facilitate the Hearing of the Petetion and clear his name. As it is there is a widely shared view that HH won the Election and Lungu stole the vote and is therefore illegally in power. This Petetion until heard will…

  6. Lungu you couldn’t allow the real winner of 2016 General Elections to rule this Country. But instead you are congratulating others when you have destroyed democracy, selfish man you will reap the consequences of stealing votes against the wish of people.

  7. THIS CHAIEMAN EDWARD CHAGWA IS THE WORST CROOKED HYPOCRITE EVER TO GRACE PLOT #1, NKHWAZI HOUSE!
He even signed the New constitution, in full view of citizens @ his compadre Kambwili’s “Gabon Disaster Heroes Stadium”, BUT lamentably failed to follow the same constitution hed signed month’s earlier, recommending he hands over power to the Speaker as stipulated in the Constitution, all because the lure of FREE STATE HOUSE MOSI & JAMESON WHISKY was TOO SWEET TO ABDICATE for a few days!
What a shameless drunk & plunderer of the now depleated Eurobond, & how dare he soils real Gambian democracy by making his putrid dishonest crooked comment!

  8. Now I believe that you can’t under estimate the power of 1mbeciles acting together in one accord. Just by reading the above comments it’s clear that fulls are fulls.

  9. This Is deception and hypocrisy at its best on Lungu’s part. The man has no sense of shame. With a huge log in his eyes he goes on to congratulate Adama Harrow when in Zambia Lungu refused to concede defeat and carried out a coup on our Constitutional Democracy. It must be hurting to Lungu to be reminded all the time that he stole the Election and People don’t recognise his Presidency. Its good to see that having stolen power ,Lungu now realises his actions have divided the Zambian Nation. Lungu needs to find a way to repair the damage that he has inflicted on Zambians . Without forgiveness there cannot be reconciliation and National Healing. Lungu has no moral authority to lead this country. Until the Petetion is properly heard and determined Lungu will remain an illegitimate…
