2016 Zambia footballer of the year nominee Misheck Chaila is hoping to play a big role in Zesco United’s push to reclaim their league title in 2017.

The midfielder last Friday warmed-up for this Tuesday’s 2016 FAZ awards by winning the Zesco 2016 best player award during the clubs annual awards gala held at The Urban Hotel in Ndola.

“I couldn’t have won this award without my teammates and of course the backing of my wife,” Chaila said.

” It means a lot and it encourages me to work harder and focus for next season and hope to help my team win more trophies next year.”

The honour was Chaila’s first with Zesco since joining the five-time league champions in 2014 from Kabwe Warriors.

Chaila was instrumental in Zesco’s successful 2016 CAF Champions League campaign that saw them become the first Zambian Club to reach the semifinals of the competition.

However, the continental run later knocked the steam out of Zesco’s engine costing the club the prospect of retaining the league title, forcing them to settle for second best that will see them play in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Zanaco beat them to the 2016 FAZ Super Division title with three games to spare.
