Patriotic Front (PF) Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has warned that the continued refusal by UPND leadership to recognize President Edgar Lungu as head of state will take the opposition political party into oblivion.
“They might just lose the focus and become irrelevant in the next five years; so they need to take introspective and check what they believe before they go into oblivion,” Mr Mumba said.
He said in an interview that it was irrelevant for UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his leaders to continue living in denial when every Zambian including the UPND supporters had accepted that President Lungu was the head of state.
Mr Hichilema and his vice Geoffrey Mwamba as well as senior leaders have refused to recognize the election of Mr Lungu on claims that the last year’s elections were rigged.
But Mr Mumba noted that the continued refusal to accept that Mr Lungu the current president of Zambia had a potential to disturb the peace that the country was enjoying and derail the economic path.
“The Zambianshave spoken and I think the role of the opposition is to provide checks and balances to the ruling party so that we have development for every Zambian,” he said.
“But the stance taken by UPND that they will not recognize the president I think they are just wasting time because everyone has already recognized and the president; I think they should up their game otherwise they will be rendered irrelevant.”
He noted that the opposition political party had been associated with violence and antagonism since last year when it lost the general elections and urged the leadership to resume the role of the opposition party.
The parliamentarians, however said President Lungu for exercising exceptional restrain even when some of the claims by the opposition party bordered on criminality.
Mr Mumba said it was also a myth and misconception for the UPND to suggest that the opposition political party was getting stronger on the Copperbelt.
He warned that becoming a member of parliament had become competitive and opposition parliamentarians would be wasting their time to fulfil their campaign promises because of the current antagonism

Same like it happened at PF last convention, Inonge was tired of it, she just installed Edgar. But doesn’t mean Edgar is not recognized by PF.

Samba: Its not an issue of forcing. Its recognizing that the country has a President, whether you like the president or not. I am sure no sane person likes a mosquito but we all recognize that Zambia has mosquitos. You can not continue saying that the country has no President when the legal system swore in one ECL as the legitimate president of the country. So even if you do not like or agree with the courts, the least you can do is to recognize the due process that took place to have ECL sworn in as President. But here we are everyone in those countries still recognizes that they have a President and life goes on until the next date of elections. It’s really very simple. The election is disputed and the only way forward to recognising Lungu is to hear the petition. Hoping and praying that people will recognise him isn’t working this time. Lungu and PF were banking on Zambian penchant for forgetting injustices quickly and moving on, but this time UPND is determined to see this case to it’s logical conclusion. A technicality doesn’t deprive one of their right to be heard. So advise Lungu to stop farting around the people’s rights and allow the petition to go ahead. Why is he afraid if he is so sure he won fair and square?

When part of Zambians refuse to recognise Edgar Chagwa Lungu as president is not an offence to be taken to court. If I do not recognise Anthony Mumba as a person that can not be respected and do not cause any harm to him, he Mumba has no cause to take me or any other person to court to solicit respect from me and others.
Lungu has finally capitulated that he did not win the elections. This goes in the history of Zambia that he is an illegitimate president of Zambia.
Posterity has it that Edigar Chagwa Lungu stole the elections results of 2016.

If as HE ECL says that according to the constitution he is president wher in the constitution does it say that anyone has to ‘RECOGNISE’ the incumbent as the president.
By definition ‘opposition” parties do not recognise their opposition otherwise we would all have the same thoughts.
Amos Chanda stated and reported in the LT that by 2021 there would be only one political party in Zambia. so he wants no opposition. Which democracy has no opposition or is zambia starting a new and radical interpretation of democracy.
Furthe in HE ECL departure speech to Mongu he said he was duly sworn in. I believe that the constitution says chief justice must swear him. The chief did not swear him in so where are we.
Court hours re 14 days another way at looking at this would be look at the terms…
would be looking at the terms of employment of the court staff and see what their hours of work should be, sure it does not include sunday and saturday.
even if it says “as required” then if the staff were not called in on saturday and sunday then the court would not be considered to be working. Majority of legal opinion canvassed indicates that 7 days, 14 days 21 days at law does not include weekends or gazetted public holidays. If the court isnt sitting then you can’t be there
