Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda has revealed that the vendors in Luanshya have been peacefully relocated to trading places after a consultative process.

The Luanshya Mayor noted that contrary to social media reports suggesting that vendors have protested against Luanshya Municipal Council’s decision to relocate them to markets, affirming that vendors decided to go back to their trading places on their own after a series of committee meetings that were constituted through the office of the mayor.

He explicated that despite a resolution which was passed by the councilors during the recently held full council meeting under minute number LMC/FHR&GPC/52/04/17 to relocate vendors to respective markets, the street vendors went back to their old trading places in a peaceful manner without any disturbances of business in the Central Business District of Luanshya.

And Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda has thanked the street vendors for their board decision to relocate without any form of force and confusion.

“Vendors have gone back despite a resolution which was passed by the councilors during the recently held full council meeting under minute number LMC/FHR&GPC/52/04/17 to relocate vendors to respective markets and they went back to their old trading places in a peaceful manner without any disturbances of business in the Central Business District of Luanshya”

“As a Local authority, we are thankful to the street vendors in the manner they have conducted themselves. To the local authority, this has shown that dialogue is the best way to tackle national issues,” Mr Chanda said.

“As a local authority, we value the contribution of our people to national development and job creation. Dialogue has proved to be the best way of addressing key issues affecting our people.”

“The duty is now on the local authority to ensure that the trading places for our people are improved. The Luanshya Municipal Council together with the vendors and other stakeholders, let us work to improve our trading places and keep them health.

“To our customers, let us support our people by going to buy from their respective trading places.”

“Together, we can develop Luanshya and make it a safe place for all our traders. The local authority through the office of the Mayor is open for suggestions on how we can keep our district clean.” Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda
