Three supporters of Kitwe United died on Saturday in a road accident on their way to Chingola for a FAZ Division 1 Zone 2 match against Chingola Police.
Eight other supporters are nursing injuries after the accident which occurred on Chingola Road just after Chambishi when a Noah Minibus registration number ACZ 4493 overturned due to a suspected tyre burst.
Club secretary Rafael Kamanga identified the deceased as Boniface Lungo, 26, Able Mwamba, 33, and Arthur Sakala, 45, all of Kitwe’s Kamitondo Township.
Of the deceased one died on the spot before second and the third one died at Kitwe Central Hospital.
Kamanga identified those still hospitalised at Kitwe Central as Robison Zulu, Lashiwe Mushanga, Funwell Kaleke Junior and his father Funwell Kaleke Senior all of Kamitondo plus Onani Sakala of Kwacha Township.
Maxwell Lungu of Kwacha and Martin Mwaba of Kamitondo have been discharged from Kitwe Central Hospital after medical examinations.
“A tragedy as befallen us. We lost three of our supporters for Kitwe United. They were going to Chingola for a match but Just after Chambishi they had a tyre burst and the drive lost control before the bus overturned,” Kamanga said.
“This is a disaster and we cannot find words to describe this sad development,” he mourned.
The match between Kitwe and Chingola Police finished 1-1 at Nchanga Stadium.

Toyota Noah is 7 seater (Including the driver), but this bus was carrying 11 passengers…. This bus was overloaded, as such the performance was compromised… RIP
