FAZ games postponed to Sunday

Share

FAZ has moved all week six matches of the Super Division to Sunday due to national mourning.

Government declared a three day state funeral in honour of the late freedom fighter Salome Kapwepwe who was the wife of former vice president Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe.

She will be put to rest in Chinsali on Saturday, which is the last of the three days of mourning.

FAZ acting general secretary Sam Phiri said in a statement that the association had pushed the matches to Sunday to comply with the national mourning.

He said that FAZ had written to the Ministry of Sports to seek clearance to play league matches on Saturday with the condition to hold a minute of silence and also have players wear black arm bands but there had been no green light given.

The National mourning mentality we have is from the second republic. In this third republic national mourning should not mean we command everyone to mourn. Only state institutions should be so commanded. Everyone else should continue going about their business. They can perhaps observed a minute of silence but shouldn’t be disturbed by the state. Thus football can go on. Radio stations can continue but just observe a token commemoration. The economic endeavors shouldn’t be disturbed. Iwe
