Kalaba leads champions Mazembe to Confederation Cup win

Share

Zambia captain Rainford Kalaba inspired TP Mazembe to victory on Sunday in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.

Mazembe beat CF Mounana of Gabon 2-0 in the two sides opening Group D match in Lubumbashi.

Kalaba scored the final goal in the 50th minute after veteran striker Tresor Mputu had put the defending CAF Confederation Cup champions ahead in the 17th minute.

The Chipolopolo captain was later substituted in the 73rd minute.

Midfielder Nathan Sinkala played the full 90 minute while striker Given Singuluma came on in the 58th minute.

Defender Kabaso Chongo was not selected.

Mazembe lead Group D on 3 points and now visit Horoya of Guinea in Conakry on May 24.

Horoya are second in Group D after a 2-2 away draw against SuperSport United last Friday in Pretoria.

  1. To start with tell us what champions TPM are and secondly this is only a group opener match and yet you give the impression TPM lifted the cup and all because of Kalaba! …

  2. I THINK @ NSHIMBI YOU ARE WRONG IN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE TITLE, BUT I FORGIVE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE TONGA BECAUSE WHEN YOU TRANSLATE IN TONGA IT MEANS THEY WON THE CHAMPION SHIP DUE TO KALABAS GOAL. PLEASE RAED AND UNDERSTAND IN ENGLISH NOT IN YOUR TONGA LANGUAGE
