Government says it wants to see Zambian contractors taking center stage in the construction industry as this will enhance the country’s development goal.

Northern Province Permanent Jobbicks Kalumba says it is pleasing to note that the quality of workmanship exhibited by some Zambian contractors in the country was quiet impressive saying government for this reason was ready to support the local contractors..

ZANIS reports that Dr. Kalumba said this in Mpulungu when he conducted an inspection tour of various projects under the Lake Tanganyika Development Project (LDP) .

Dr. Kalumba said it is exciting to note that local contractors were emerging as competitors in the construction industry given that foreign based contractors have set standards in terms of meeting contractual obligations .

The PS said he was particularly happy to see the quality of work done by GS CHELLA in the construction of the office block for lake Tanganyika project in the area under the auspices of the African Development Bank (ADB).

ADB financed the completion of the office block to a tune of K997 thousand.

And the PS said he is also happy that the construction of two staff houses at Chituta primary school by CHIPANDO General Dealers has been done to expected standards.

Dr. Kalumba said such good workmanship by the contractor will go a long way in encouraging teachers to work in rural areas.

The construction of the two staff houses at Chituta primary has been done at the cost of K774 thousand kwacha through lake Tanganyika development project .

Meanwhile, Northern Province Permanent Secretary Jobbicks Kalumba has commended the buildings department in the region for carrying -out effective supervision in the areas where Government is carrying-out various projects.

Dr. Kalumba said engineers in the department have been equal to task by ensuring that contractors oblige to the set standards in the construction of various infrastructure projects in the province.

  1. It’s “centre” not “center” unless you’re in Texas. Muzagwesa ba G12 who come on this site with those spellings

    • How can the Zambian contractors be at the so called “centre stage” when all tenders are prioritised to companies that are owned by PF mini~stars & corrupt leadership?

PF has no vision, all they know is cheap yapping about unfruitful ventures & detrimental to PF short legged lies. Where are 500,000 jobs Lungu pledged? Where is Enoch Kavindele’ s North Western railway project that promised 13,000 plus 3,000 permanent jobs?
How much is mealie meal today?
PF, talk is cheaply free & try actions. Oops, PF is visionless, so they are action less.
