Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services and Chief Government Spokesperson kampamba Mulenga
GOVERNMENT has warned United Party for National Development (UPND) vice-president Geoffrey Mwamba against issuing contemptuous statements which are denting the country’s image abroad.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Kampamba Mulenga said the careless utterances by Mr Mwamba are sending wrong signals to the international community.

She said in an interview yesterday that Mr Mwamba’s statements on UPND president Hakainde Hichilema’s arrest are contemptuous, adding that he must know that the law can follow him wherever he is.

Mr Mwamba has been issuing statements in the press over the incarceration of Mr Hichilema despite the matter being in the courts of law.

“It is wrong for Mr Mwamba to start asking the international community to intervene in the arrest of opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema in the press,” she said.
Ms Mulenga said Mr Mwamba knows that the case he is commenting on is active in the courts of law.

She said that Zambia is a sovereign State and as such Mr Hichilema’s arrest has nothing to do with the international community.

Ms Mulenga said Zambia is governed by the rule of law and “even if Mr Mwamba lobbies the international community, government cannot interfere in the due process of the law”.

“Mr Mwamba is trying to bring anarchy in the country and he must be aware that the long arm of the law can follow him,” she said.

She urged opposition political parties to stop misleading the international community that there is tension in Zambia.

Ms Mulenga said there is no tension in the country as evidenced by the peace that the country continues to enjoy.

She said Zambia continues to enjoy cordial relations with other countries.

    • PF in itself is a warning of bad governance to Zambia. You do not need GBM to tell anyone that Zambia is in rotten hands.

    • Shocking that you’d say that Madam Minister after you let the Chinese government successfully intervene in the case were their people were wrongfully arrested. Why did you not tell them off in the same same way? And as for denting the country’s image, your govt has done an excellent job of that. Your application of double standards in favour of foreigners is astonishing. PF officials have been issuing statements in the press over the incarceration of Mr Hichilema despite the matter being in the courts but you don’t say anything about it.

    • Wow, this is silly, GBM is a citizen just like you Kampamba? Being in a ruling government does not make you better than other Zambians?? Therefore stop threatening people because that’s abuse of office. PF should realize that we had UNIP, MMD and even them will go one day. This nonsense of reckless statements by ministers like this woman should not be condoned. STOP IT PF, as Zambia is a democratic country with freedom of speech. PF leadership have failed Zambians and live in pretense as things economically are bad. Where is the more money in the pocket?? It seems you meant more money for yourselves thru your corrupt practices and not all Zambians. GBM go on and tell the truth don’t get threaten by failures.

    • Zambia depends on the donor community for loans and hand-outs. Talking ill of the international community such as the EU, the United Kingdom and other stakeholders except maybe China who are more interested in making profits, the Zambian people will suffer even more if sanctions were applied on Zambia and I do not see this NOT happening very soon because of poor human rights and bad governance.

Shut up Mulenga and let your PF Free HH.

  3. Politicking and trivialities have overshadowed and still continue to dominate the agenda of this regime. The sad bad is that, just when we have sent off a good number of old politicians to the terraces, the youthful substitutes are just full of rhetoric. It is unimaginable what it will take for this regime to gain composure, be objective and maintain focus. This is traumatic considering that we are less than a year into the 5 year term!

  5. Madam, why didn’t your Government tell the Chinese government that we are a sovereign state and the issue of their citizens stealing copper in before the courts?

  6. Spaka, did the Chinese appear before any court?

If you answer correctly you will be informed that once the wheel of justice starts to spin no spanner can stop it. The due process of justice simply has to run its full course. That’s how it works.

In all circumstances, you’re safer to lobby for the release of an incarcerated comrade before the the matter goes to court.

    • There is no due process of justice but selective prosecution only.

Kiezer Zulu assured a police women in full view of a packed stadium and nothing has been done. We are talking about an advisor to lungu.

  13. Fat donkey don’t say you were not warned when you find yourself in a Lusaka correction centre. There is no givernment in thecwirkd which has not recognised the government of Zambia or has bad relations with us. The countries where you think you are safe are very good friends to Zambia, they are not happy with you and they can easily fly or drive you straight into correction on Lusaka, Kabwe or Kitwe, you know where. And yesterday your colleague Saviour Chishimba gave you an insight of the luxurioys conditions there.

  15. If “…Zambia is a sovereign State…”, then that “sovereignty” is governed bu the tenants of International Law. Ms. Mulenga, can you decide if PF government is acting outside principles of Customary International Law, in which case you are pariah state or you are subject to the Customary International Law governing relations between Civilized Nations?

Prayer is powerful and it works.

  20. Fish out GBM wherever he is. That is cowardice backing far away from Zambia. Such insinuations are denting the image of our nation. The pronouncement that was made by the football commentator at ongoing under 20 match in Korea arose from such careless utterances by Zambian chaps who are power hungry!

  22. These people telling lies outside Zambia are just waisting their time, Zambia is very peaceful for non wrong doers! The peace and tranquility we are enjoying can be seen by the full excitement and vigour exhibited by our successful under 20 football team in South Korea! Success can not be achieved in anything when in an unstable environment! We proved to be best in Korea from Africa, and more successes are coming! Period!
