Jacob Banda has seemingly paid the price for last Wednesday’s howler against Nkana.
The Zesco United goalkeepers’ failure to keep out Diego Apanene’s 45 meter punt in Nkana’s 1-0 away win in Ndola on August 16, saw him axed for Sunday’s game at the same venue against Napsa Stars.
In his place,new signing from Burundi Dieudonne Ntibahezwa stepped straight into the team on his debut since moving from Le Messager Ngozi in July.
Zesco beat Napsa 2-1 to reclaim top spot on the day that also saw second choice goalkeeper Lameck Nyangu on the bench.
“In the last game,Jacob Banda made a big mistake.Just like the game against Lusaka Dynamos and also Nchanga Rangers,” Zesco coach Zlatko Krmpotc said.
Dynamos came from behind to beat Zesco 2-1 in Ndola while Nchanga Rangers had two disallowed goals in their 1-0 home loss to Krmpotic’s team.
“Now we must give a chance to the other five goalkeepers that we have,” Krmpotic said.
“We won’t give a chance to players who make big mistakes.
“We must have competition in the team and that is very important.”
Meanwhile, Zesco return to action on Wednesday when they visit 4th placed Power Dynamos in a delayed league fixture at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
It remains to be seen if Banda has been forgiven and returns to the fold for the short ride to Kitwe.
