THE board of the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has appointed Patrick Mutimushi as the organisation’s new director general.

Mr Mutimushi, who is a telecommunications and electronics engineer, takes over from Margaret Mudenda, whose contract ended in June this year.

In a statement yesterday, ZICTA board chairperson Emmanuel Musonda hoped that Mr Mutimushi’s appointment, coupled with his vast experience in the ICT sector, will take the authority to greater heights.

“We have no doubt that his exceptional regulatory expertise, proficiently built over the years through practice and learning, developing unique regulatory skill sets of international standard, will be a critical ingredient in the ICT regulatory agency,’’ he said.

Mr Mutimushi has served ZICTA for over 16 years of which 10 years have been at senior management level in charge of technology and engineering.

    • @1.2 Obatala, I think Boards are appointed by Ministers who choose those they believe can help them deliver on the vision of the government in power!! As you can see Patrick Mutimushi may NOT be from the same region as Board Chairperson!!What matters is skills as they have demonstrated by appointing Partrick!!

  1. You are a man of deep and solid faith. Keep up your early morning prayers. All the best with the and elevated appointment. I know you will make a difference. Just remember that great bosses empower, mediocre ones control!

  2. Congrats Eng Patrick Mutimushi on this well deserved appointment! this one is indeed ours Thank you Jesus

    • Please help me understand why “Eng” is a title in Zambia.
I’ve heard of nowhere else in the world where it’s a title.
Are our engineers that special and accomplished?

  3. Why do you keep appointing Engineers in such positions? Bring people from outside if you want true change…this is why countries like Kenya surpass us.

    • @7 Jay Jay, While you MAY have a point when we look at appointments at ZESCO, ZAMTEL and may be a few others, an Engineer who has developed an acumen of running a business can still do well to turn around an Engineering oriented parastatal. However, ZICTA is about REGULATION, which is mostly both LEGAL and TECHNICAL.The Director General is not there to do technical work but to PROVIDE LEADERSHIP!! Therefore, having one the key technical skills, in this Telecoms Engineering is adequate for him to understand the tech side but he will need to motivate his team to support him in all areas including tech to succeed. The out going DG is Lawyer! Let me just work on leading the organization and avoid falling in the trap of reverting to his technical skills all the time,BUT LEAD and let…

  4. What I like about this appointment is the continuity. He does not have to learn the ropes after working with Margaret Mudenda for that many years. Congrats Margaret for grooming a successor!

  5. Mutimushi, rise to the CHALLENGE youngman, we have
    -Expanding Social Media
    -Expanding School ICT Programs
    -e Governance Security
    -The Digital Migration
INVITE MORE INVESTMENT IN ICT INFRASTRUCTURE TO MEET COUNTRY DEMANDS
Review ICT Regulatory Framework to meet these challenges and protect the users. This is your #1 goal.

  6. Working for the governments is not option uno for most people, apart from politicians.

But congratulations on your appointment young man. You will be frustrated, but keep grafting away and help shape and develop the necessary tech infrastructure needed for this age.
