Shepolopolo coach Albert Kachinga has hailed Zambia’s display at the ended COSAFA Women’s Championship in Zimbabwe.

Zambia minted bronze in Zimbabwe after finishing third at the regional tournament scooped by South Africa.

Kachinga’s side recorded three wins, one draw and one loss at the competition.

“I think for now I can simply say we are amongst the best three in the COSAFA region,” Kachinga said.

“Zimbabwe and South Africa never had it easy against us,” he said.

Zambia drew 1-1 against Zimbabwe in the group stage before losing to South Africa on penalties after a 3-3 draw in 90 minutes in the semifinals.

Shepolopolo had earlier bashed Madagascar 7-1 and Malawi 6-3 before overcoming Kenya 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in third and fourth match to bag bronze.

“The tag of saying Zimbabwe and South Africa are the only giants in this region is long gone. They just have to watch out next time,” Kachinga said.

He added:”We need such tournaments regularly to improve the standard of play among teams in the COSAFA region.”

South Africa claimed the 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championship crown with a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe at the Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on Sunday.
