The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says the Constitutional Court has contributed to the political fiasco Zambia is experiencing at the moment because a section of political society holds that it failed to address their 2016 election grievances.

Speaking in an interview, SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe said under ideal conditions it will be good that all Zambians recognize President Edgar Lungu adding that as a civil society SACCORD identifies him as Head of State despite having taken note of the protests of political stakeholders concerning the aftermath of the 2016 tripartite elections.

Commenting on Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) leader Nevers Mumba’s charge that President Lungu will only be recognized by the opposition once the Constitutional Court legitimizes him, Mr. Cheembe said it is a democratic right of the aggrieved political players to be heard in the Constitutional Court which has a mandate to dispense justice impartially so that Zambians have confidence in the judiciary.

“The Constitutional Court has contributed to the political fiasco Zambia is experiencing at the moment because a section of political society holds that it failed to address their 2016 election grievances” Chembe said

When he featured on the People’s Debate Programme on Pan African Radio Yesterday MMD leader Nevers Mumba said he cannot look for a job from President Lungu because he does not recognize him.

But Patriotic Front (PF) Media Director Sunday Chanda has questioned the wisdom of Dr. Mumba by saying he does not recognize President Lungu when on more than one occasion he has been to State House to meet him.

Chanda has since challenged Dr. Mumba to tell the nation why he has been frequenting State House if he does not recognize President Edgar Lungu.

“I questioned the wisdom of Dr. Mumba by saying he does not recognize President Lungu when on more than one occasion he has been to State House to meet him” Chanda said.

    • Constitutional court is under Jonathan’s thumb. Just like the ACC, police, speaker in parliament etc. etc.

My recent concern is that the people of Zambia are the ones asking questions.

Where is LAZ in all this?

The truth is we as citizens have to kick out this rot. No one will do it for us.

    • Sunday Chanda, you would better to question your own wisdom. Boniface has said it clearly, as civil society SACCORD chairperson, he recognizes the president and in that capacity, he visits State House, but as a person, he doesn’t recognize ECL. So what is there for him to tell the nation?

    • What an embarrassment to their credentials. I once had confidence in these guys but I was totally wrong. Hopefully one day we will have a credible judicial team

    • Sunday Chanda, the once upon a time Campaign manager for Mutati who was beaten pants down by Dr Mumba at the selection of the MMD President after shameless RB stepped down as MMD President then for fear of Sata. What ever Sunday Chanda supports goes nowhere. He supported Mutati,Mutati is just RB PROJECT and he does better to just join PF officially at least eat for now.For there will be NO continuity after this.So even Sunday is eating for now for there is NO continiuty for him either.

  1. One of the strategies upnd and its international financiers who wanted to effect regime change had was to erode the confidence the population has in its institutions by attacking and discrediting them. The ECZ, the Judiciary were high on that hit list. The logic was if the common man doubts the courts, that would reduce the legitimacy of office holders endorsed by these institutions and ultimately lead to their rejection and a revolt would ensue. Civil society, whose financiers and operators are not chosen by Zambian people like parliament has its own motive which remains unclear!! ECZ has been running elections since 1996 and today it must be discredited because one candidate who had lost 4 previous election lost again??? Who is SACCORD to question what the people of Zambia through their…

    • …constitution have put together?? The Constitutional Court is mandated by the people of Zambia through the constititution, who funds and backs Boniface Cheembe to question our institutions through SACCORD????

  2. If what Sunday Chanda has said is correct ,that’s Nevers Mumba for you!! He did it under Mwanawasa. So he can do it again

  3. Concourt caused the Constitutional crisis in Zambia. The root cause is ECL who has captured all Electoral Institutions in Zambia. ECZ,Concourt, ZPS,Prisons etc operate on the Directives of ECL. Lungu should have resigned and handed over Power to the Speaker of Parliament during the Petition Hearing process but refused to do so .By abrogating the Zambian Constitution Lungu committed Treason. When Lungu leaves Power he will be prosecuted for all these irregularities and illegalities.

  4. Bamumba the President of MmD or Bamutati? Any way BaHH be careful with this guys. They’re trying to make you loose focus on 2021. It is a gimmick the way I have seen it

  5. I salute the Constitutional Court of Zambia because it did not play to the gallery on the petition by Hakainde. The Constitution Court was firm and resolute and things are smooth sailing in Zambia. The story is not the same in Kenya. The Chief Justice in Kenya who was applauded as a champion of Africa has created a crisis in Kenya and it will be a miracle if violence does not erupt in that country before or after the new elections. Already Odinga has withdrawn from standing in the new elections. The heat is getting hotter. Imwe ati ni boza? Already instead of holding the elections on the previous electoral process, there are changes being proposed creating more confusion. Imwe banthu! The whole thing in Kenya is a mess. The Constitutional Court in Zambia must be applauded for avoiding…

  6. Again we have this question of recognizing ECL as president. To all you learned bloggers tell me show me where in the Constitution of this land, where in any law of this land does it state that a person , political party or even an animal has to recognize a president of Zambia… recognition is what ECL craves to compensate for his own inadequacies, why do you tnink he opens anything and everything, in he his own words he said he would open a toilet, it is so there is a plaque saying this was opened by the president of zambia Edgar Chagwa Lungu. He craves recognition.
