Shamujompa cleared to play for Power in Kitwe derby

Share

Defender Isaac Shamujompa is eligible to play for Power Dynamos in Saturday’s Kitwe derby despite this week’s ruling by the FAZ Player Status Committee that he is a Nchanga Rangers player.

This is because the temporal clearance that was issued to him by FAZ to feature for Power is still officially valid.

Shamujompa has been at the centre of a five-club wrangle over his ownership.

“The temporal clearance will only be void if he goes back to Rangers,” a FAZ official familiar with the development said.

“The rules only allow him to play for two clubs (in one season) so even if they (Rangers) sell him elsewhere he can’t play.”

Shamujompa has continued training with Power since the ruling and is said to be in camp for the derby.

Meanwhile, Power head into the derby at home against Nkana at Arthur Davies Stadium unbeaten in their last four derby meetings with three wins and a draw.

Nkana lost 2-1 in the first leg in June after Power came from one-down to beat their hosts.

Power and Nkana are 5th and 6th on the on 52 and 49 points respectively heading into final leg meeting.

And the match will see striker Alex Ng’onga back in competitive action for the first time since the 2018 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifier against Nigeria that Zambia lost 1-0 away on October 7.

Ng’onga, who has been the scapegoat of that loss, will be in the spotlight as he plays his first derby back since rejoining Power in July, two years after he left Arthur Davies for Gabonese club CS Mounana in 2015.
