Share

Government says it will continue recruiting teachers annually so as to absorb most graduates coming from approved colleges of education.

Speaking during the  third graduation ceremony for Mars Hill Institute which saw 73 teachers graduate on Friday  , Luapula province Minister Nickson Chilangwa says the demand for teachers in the country have increased owing to good policies which government has put in place.

The minister , who was represented by deputy permanent secretary Rolyd Chakaba,  said that policies like the up grading of primary and basic schools into secondary schools has seen the construction of more school hence more teachers are needed.

Mr. Chilangwa pointed out that government wants to accelerate growth in the education sector so that everyone can have access to quality education even in rural areas.

He observed that in some rural areas schools have been manned by unqualified teachers and that the pupil-teacher ratio has increased.

The minister further explains that to address such challenges most of the teachers who will be recruited in the current teachers recruitment taking place will be posted in rural areas.

He pointed out that government will only recruit quality and well qualified teachers so that the education standards in the country can continue going up.

The minister has since appealed to all those who will be recruited to adhere to professional conducts and ethics so that they do not dent the image of the noble profession.

  1. Please make sure you pay these teachers and public servants their salaries on time. How do you expect them to survive or do their jobs properly if they go for months without pay? Yet you are busy travelling to Uganda or buying wheelbarrows that no one needs.

    Foo1ish leaders we have indeed.

  2. Is this minister Nickson Chinangwa and changed name to Chilangwa for fear of shame ? These are the characters who are busy looting government coffers.

  3. We have kept saying approved Colleges!! If there are unproved ones why is the authority not closing such. Am worried because innocent Zambians are paying through there nose and soon they will be told, the college you went to is not recognised. Regulate by closure, prevention is better than cure they say. This will help poor Zambians who can not manage the most corrupt Gvt colleges and opting for the private sector. Ministry Higher Education protect the Zambian people by swinging in action, closing institutions you do not recognise. Student loans which are poorly handled and Nkrumah sag are not the only roles that ministry was set up. Go in the field!

  4. Let us hope that the unqualified teachers are found out and all gotten rid of. Including the persons mainly involved in giving these poeple jobs without checking for valid qualifications.

Let us hope the new qualified teachers are paid on time and that the state chooses wiser ways of spending money.

Investing loans into people’s education and development of new skills and industries is the only way we will once again progress as we did in 2001 and 2006.
