Patrick Phiri extols Chris Mugalu

Lusaka Dynamos coach Patrick Phiri has described striker Chris Mugalu as one of the best forwards he has worked with in a long time.

Mugalu made immediate impact during his debut FAZ Super Division season at Dynamos in 2017 scoring 21 goals.

That tally also saw the DR Congo striker walk away with the 2017 FAZ Golden Boot.

Phiri said not since the four seasons he spent at Nkana where he coached the likes of striker Musole Sakuwanda and won two league titles in 1999 and 2001 has he worked with goal scorer of that magnitude.

“I have not seen a player of such talent, dedication and hard work in a long time in the Zambian league especially with players from DR Congo since Sakulanda at Nkana over seventeen years ago,” Phiri said.

“His work rate is amazing and he was a great striker to work with this season.”

Phiri admitted Mugalu’s exploits have not gone unnoticed.

“Obviously it will be very difficult to keep him after his exploits this season,” Phiri said.

“We will not stand in his way if an opportunity comes but it will be very sad to see him go.”
