Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa has disclosed that the construction of the FTJ University in Mansa District will commence this year.
Mr. Chilangwa said the delays in commencing the construction works have been due to the redesigning of the University in order to accommodate more faculties that were not in the original plan.
Mr. Chilangwa stated that government is mobilizing adequate resources for the project to run without stopping.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Chilangwa told journalists in Mansa today that President Edgar Lungu is expected to re-launch the construction of the university in Mansa before March 31, this year.
He explained that government has a robust plan to build and complete FTJ University within 36 months until its completion.
Mr. Chilangwa said the institution will be the only university to have a full sports faculty in the country adding it will also offer programmes that will be relevant to Luapula Province.
In November, 2013 late President Michael Sata laid a foundation stone for the construction of the Luapula University which President Edgar Lungu later renamed after late second Republican President Fredrick Titus Jacob Chiluba
Are we honouring figures of the past who had very questionable integrity and went thru prolonged trials for embezzlement of public funds?
This is a wrong name … ECL should have consulted widely before naming it FTJ. Leave it with the old name Luapula University is way dignified than FTJ.

The fact is this is a desperate move from the president because Mumbi Phiri told him the reality when she was sent to Luapula after the resignation of Harry Kalaba. Mumbi has told the president people are nolonger eating fake promises and they are not fools to fool with fake promises. Mumbi Phiri has told the president the real picture on the ground because Chilangwa cheats him. Mumbi Phiri heard for herself people’s comments and underletting Kambwili and Kalaba is like putting oneself on suicide mission. Now we have trouble, they are going to BORROW in order to fake starting a university in Luapula that will stall at foundation level and it will be another campaign lie we want to finish projects.

Some of this project just give a minister to launch them this year the president should focus on big things rather than launching and commissioning to ma project.
Better you build an airport in Mansa and name if after Mr. Chiluba. But to name FTJ after a university? He does not deserve that considering the fact that he had humble academic and professional standing.

An another sign that we have a lot of misplace priorities as a nation. Use place names and not peoples names for public facilities like Universities. Now we have dodgy names like Kapasa Makasa, Robert Mushindo, and FTJ . You can bet your last dollor that I’m not letting my kids get anywhere near there (Of Course I make exceptions for such internationally reknown figures like Kwame Nkurumah and Patrice Lumumba.

I see nothing wrong. I hated chiluba with a firery passion. I wouldn’t suggest that he was uneducated. He was a career accountant, in Tanzania he worked on a sisil plantation as an accounted. He was head of the accounts devision at corpus globe (a reputable company). He laboured to educate himself even while he was in office. The post even published his thesis for his doctorate. To me Titus Was The absolute worst president we ever had but I can safely call him an intellectual who was a master orator. He is part of our history, no matter how crappy he was, remember our leaders are a reflection of where we are as a people. We are responsible for chiluba being in office. Let’s remember him. I see nothing wrong with this.

we can call it University of Luapula or Luapula University or Luapula Agriculture University or Luapula University of Science and Technology depending on focus. if the idea is after former presidents, we can start with KK. however despite building UNZA kk never called KK university, no. lets look at national image first. only an opinion though

The worst ten years in Zambian history were under Chiluba..a complete waste of space. His legacy has lived on and looks like he is being rivalled by a certain someone. How can a leader be so heartless to his own people? The only victory is he didnt live long to enjoy the filthy proceeds.
