Green Buffaloes mauled in Egypt

Green Buffaloes poor away form against North African opponents continued to haunt them when on Saturday night they suffered a brutal 4-0 away loss to Egyptian club El Masry.

The defeat in a 2018 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, first leg match played at Port said, left Buffaloes on the verge of an early exit from continental football after a 10-year absence.

Furthermore, the loss extended Buffaloes losing run away in North Africa to four successive games since 1982.

El Masry took a 2-0 lead into the break when defender Islam Salah put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute before ex-Burkina Faso striker Aristide Bance added goal number two in the 38th minute.

His compatriot and defender Mohamed Koffi made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute before striker Islam Eissa completed the rout in the 81st minute.

Buffaloes must now try and score four unanswered goals next Tuesday in Lusaka to try and at least force a post-match penalty decider at home.

  1. Big margin, you have a mountain to climb. what went wrong with the military men. Such a defeat is very much embarrassing.

  2. The soccer season calendar in Zambia should be changed to run from August to May. When these CAF competitions start our season is normally on recess and most players are rusty. Please lets align our league with what is obtaining in most major leagues in Africa and the rest of the world.

    • Why do Africans always want to imitate Europeans? Even the DJs in Africa speak in fake European accents.
Our football seasons are in accordance with our climate just as the Euro league seasons are dictated by their weather. Copycatting of Europeans won’t guarantee you success!

  3. Annihilated indeed! It is well. Miracles do happen. In history, Mighty Mufulira Wanderers beat a team from Tanzania in Tanzania 5-0. The return leg Mighty lost 6-0. Fyapa chalo!

  4. It’s impossible to play in the rain season. Already it’s a very big challenge to train during pre season. However all teams involved in continental competitions must play many training games and pre season small tournaments. Meanwhile forget about progression
