Minister for Local Government Hon. Vincent Mwale has announced that His Excellency, President Edgar Lungu is this Saturday, May 26, expected to take part in the cleaning exercise to be conducted country wide.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr Mwale said President Lungu is expected to take part in the cleaning exercise in Munali constituency.

Hon Mwale said the cleaning exercise is expected to commence at the beginning of the day during which all businesses will remain closed and will only resume after 10:00hrs, and activities of social and entertainment in nature will be suspended during this period.

He said the move is aimed at facilitating the cleaning exercise for the keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy campaign which will take place at the beginning of the day up to 10:00hrs.

“I would like to announce that the last Saturday of this month, that is, 26th May, 2018 will be reserved for the cleaning exercise throughout the country”.

The Local Government Minister has urged all citizens to join in the cleaning exercise following the successful re-launch of the “Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign” by His Excellency, President Edgar Lungu last month.

“It is now a requirement as Government Policy that all citizens participate in the cleaning of their surroundings every last Saturday of the month.”

Mr Mwale explained that congregants of Seventh-Day Adventsist church (SDA) will be exempted from the cleaning exercise on Saturday but will be expected to do the same on Sunday.

Provincial Ministers have been tasked to ensure that the cleaning activities take place in all districts whilst all Ministers in general have been directed by His Excellency the President to participate in the cleaning activities wherever they will be on the last Saturday of each month.

    • Where’s the money collected by cities? That’s what should be used to clean the cities. City levies or taxes on water, hotel rooms, garbage collections fees are what developed nations use to clean up theirs cities. What’s up with corrupt countries?

    • Shameless- its the only thing he knows hanging out with juniors dancing and wearing blue overalls with silly hats!!

    • Edgar on Saturday, and HH on Sunday???
And the Religious Minister is ndwiiiii nothing to say about seggregation.
You need “day of cleaning” dialogue.

    • Shameless
I coudnt agree more.Through institutionalized corruption money for cleaning the cities is being chewed by Commando and other silly cadres whilst the leadership wastes our time with so called cleaning. There is already systems in place for cleaning but the resources are going to wrong hands.Let them clean alone i am not interested. And Kambwili amend your motion this is breach of the citizens constitutional right against slavery.

  1. This lazy bum Edgar should have just been a Minister or a PS….the man has no leadership qualities even made worse by surrounding himself with donkeys for advisers!!

  2. #4.1 Shameless, glad that I have found you here. I am referring to your du.ll comment earlier today on culling hippos.
I said “If it is cruel to cull hippos then it must be equally cruel to end the lives of all those cattle that Zambeef slaughters for beef, and pigs for pork, and chickens for chicken…..(help me with that one….kikikikiki)”. Uwe upnd cadre, please put some effort into your thinking, start by reading correctly. I am referring to the point of cruelty to animals re:culling hippos while referencing domestic animals which equally are living creatures. Dull as you are, you refer instead to breeding domestic and wild animals. Of course everybody knows that Zambeef livestock is bred domestically in large numbers while hippos breed naturally and not at the same pace and same…

  3. …….Dull as you are, you refer instead to breeding domestic and wild animals. Of course everybody knows that Zambeef livestock is bred domestically in large numbers while hippos breed naturally and not at the same pace and same quantities. Upnd cadres, h.h alimilowa bonse? I have never seen such a du.ll comment as yours, jumping to conclusions before you finish reading!

  4. This is a well intended act by the government, and with ECL leading in front. I am sure that h.h will take up in Chilanga.

Now imwe ba upnd, Jay Jay naba LT robot ba Spaka lilo, what is wrong with keep your country clean? You want to live in filth? Mindset change starts with a small step.
Bushe imwe ba upnd you want to live nobusali? Can’t you keep your upnd traps shut for just one moment while others clean up? We know people will not clean up in southern stronghold for fear of h.h, I wonder for what reason? We shall know soon!

    • Imwe corrupt cader rat it’s about putting a cleaning regime in place to clean every day, not these ceremonial gatherings by you lazy corrupt theives….

Try using the rates collected to pay for cleaning everyday instead of stealing and trying to dupe people with these photo stunts…

  5. So if the citizens are now to clean themselves then the rates that we pay to councils should be abolished . All cleaners employed should either be fired or reassigned different jobs. The money we shall save from not paying the council’s we can then use to buy cleaning materials and pay for cleaners too. It will also compensate for loss of business and loss of man hours in the production sector.

  6. Leading by example. “Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy” sounds nice. Hope to see the fruits of this campaign next time I visit. Don’t argue.

  7. Lol at the cader rats like #8 Dancing on seeing lungu in gum boot for his quarterly photo op while they chew collected rates everyday…..mean while grabage piling up elsewhere…..look at this photo from ZWD of garbage at evelynhone collage…

    zambiawatchdog.com/photos-of-the-day-evelyn-hone-college/

    • Your monthly or quaterly silly clean up gatherings won’t archive anything untill you allocate a budget from the rates and taxes collected and use for everyday clean up operations….

  8. “It is now a requirement as Government Policy that all citizens participate in the cleaning of their surroundings every last Saturday of the month.”

What nonsense! When leadership starts to think this way with impunity, then know they drunk in corrupt wealth and blind to their obligations for which we pay huge taxes and severally. Am a tax payer of numerous forms!

Am off to Siavonga on that day to spend my hard earned cash with family. Am no fool.

  9. Let them clean so they learn to keep Zambia clean; but this is temporary measure; council should have inspectors to fine people who litter to keep Zambia clean long term; sweepers should sweep every day;

  10. When I come to activities that require zero thinking and an opportunity to use vernacular Lungu shines.

  11. All this”Keep Zambia clean” campaign is nonsense. It will never work, it does not work, it can’t work! What works is a hammer always hanging ready to fall on offenders: The great Michael Sata knew this all too well!
But today, we are just playing like little boys in the park. Heads have to roll. We need to Magufulify Zambia as well!! Only positive dictators turn around situations in countries. Plenty examples. God bless Zambia.

  12. Picking rubbish alone will not help much. Overhauling roads and sports infrastructure especially around Copperbelt will do a greater favor. What am I saying? No matter how much litter we will gather and despose on the Copperbelt, it will not make much sense because the dusty roads around townships and the towns is the order of life in this Province. Please let’s focus on long term solutions!

  13. I get frustrated each time I see the mediocre way we want to solve real problems in this Country. It’s like we are not sure what we want to achieve. And the major problem is: we have wrong people claiming to serve Zambia yet they are only interested in pocketing national wealth at the expense of the many suffering Zambians. Whether people are in the ruling party or opposition, any wise head can discern they are vultures only waiting to reap from the efforts of the innocent citizens. This is sad. God doesn’t like this. We better change our ways and work to develop this country for the benefit of not only this generation but many more generations to come. God bless our beloved country.

  14. The biggest keep Zambia clean should be corruption clean up from the top to the bottom, then and only then can we clean our enviroment because corruption in zambia stinks more than the garbage piled up by our markets.

  15. @#, Are you Prof. Hansoni & HaNdulo? Sorry, you sound like them! Maybe you can write FIFA about your concerns!

  16. Mwale, Lungu, and RB are uneducated. They are all from Malawi. Zambians are sleepy, more especially those from Eastern Province. They have been used.
