Zambia’s Chileshe Kapwepwe has been chosen as the new COMESA Secretary General, becoming the first woman to hold the post.

Ms. Kapwepwe takes over from Mr. Sindiso Ngwenya, a Zimbabwean National.

This was announced at the 20th summit of the COMESA Heads of State and Government summit being held at Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

In his opening remarks, President Edgar Lungu stated that the COMESA region should strive to add value to raw materials before exporting.

President Lungu said value addition has the potential to create the much needed jobs for the region.

And the Zambia Women’s Lobby has congratulated Ms. Kapwepwe on her new portfolio of Secretary General of COMESA.

    • Well done madame, wishing you all the best.

Please refrain from accepting brown envelopes in the dark, like Lungu does.

You may get back to work now madame.

    • Iwe Ka Mushota, trying reading a book. Any book. I know it’s hard, but you need some mental development. Shaa!!!

    • Congratulations, Madam Kapwepwe. Only yesterday I posted something about her father being assaulted by UNIP terrorists in 1978.

  1. “TONGAS ARE BORN AS TRIBALISTS AND BITTER PEOPLE” says Chishimba kambwili.Congratulations madam Kapwepwe, fly the Zambian flag higher in your new role as a SG of COMESA.

  2. Congratulations mama, you deserve it, by your great performance in previous portfolios. We wish you the best

  3. I think the biggest question is “Is she taken, as in married”?. If not then I can second someone from the Royal Establishment, including myself.

    • Aah! Not you Katampakwa – honestly, your willie is too small and short to excite thar lady. You’ll just leave her frustrated! She is happy with what she gets at the moment – so leave her alone.

  4. Congratulations! The bigger picture however, is that Zambia under the leadership of Lungu stimulates high confidence levels in the international community for Zambian professionals. This would not be the case if Zambia were a dictatorship. No one would want to consider Zambian professionals for high profile jobs at regional fora such as COMESA. It’s all because of Lungu and PF that Zambia is full of opportunities for Zambians in and outside Zambia. Come to think of it, a foo.l proof policy on contracts is coming and Zambian contractors will benefit from Chinese money. Jealous panse. Just try to beat this illustrious record. Win elections first and stop being bitter. Losing can be painful, but stand up to it and fight like Herve Renard in his advert, but peacefully and no fires.

    • No it’s all because of Madam Kapwepwe herself. And either way the post is a rotating one, Zambia will always have one of our people in charge.

What’s important from now onwards is her performance in the role, importantly she must open opportunities for the growth and prosperity of the Zambian economy.

  5. GREAT, much as I am NOT SURE ABOUT HER CAPACITY TO DELIVER AT THIS LEVEL looking at the lofty achievements left behind by her predecessor, I AM GREATLY ELATED THAT COMESA, AN ORGANIZATION THAT KK and ZAMBIA CONTRIBUTED TO IN ESTABLISHING CAN NOW BE LED BY A ZAMBIAN!! Please Madam, DO NOT DISAPPOINT US, this could just be a stepping stone to higher positions of leadership!!CONGRATS!! I HOPE ONE DAY TO SEE A ZAMBIAN LEAD SADC and the AU as ZAMBIA under KK INVESTED A LOT IN THE CREATION OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS AND LIBERATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA!!

  6. gary these jobs cannot be taken by new comers. they need people with a track record. Congratulations mama

  7. Zambian Journalists fail us at times. We need to learn investigative journalism before we put up a story. Good journalists would inform us about the appointment and go on and tell us about who the appointed person is, life story or education background. You do not need a book or a thesis paper like that of Dr. ShuwaShuwa to do that but a paragraph or two is sufficient. Wow!

  8. @14.1, It is true when those we fear become appointing authorities. We have seen it before, we see it now in institutions and we fear it happening Hagain, we call it “SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TEAM!

  9. The Kapwepwe legacy lives on!
Great work president Chiluba did immediately he came into power to fetch the Kapwepwe children and offered them positions in govt and parastatals. Kaunda shelved them in back seat.
Congratulations madam Chileshe on your appointment, u deserve It, go and serve with honor and dignity.

  10. I need to know the benefits of belonging to such a regional grouping called COMESA!! Most of the time its only individuals like Kapwepwe who benefit but not ordinary people….

  11. @NBA OFFICIAL, at times you may not appreciate the benefits of belonging to such trading blocs. I remember first time I traveled to Kenya, all visitors from COMESA countries were cleared pretty fast with no questions at all. And it’s a standard practice in all member states. Goods originating from COMESA countries don’t attarct customs duty, and this is in view of creating one common market and make goods from member countries more competitive and make goods from outside COMESA less competitive.

  12. Congratulations Ms Kapwepwe.Keep up the good works remember the author and finisher of our lives in everything you do.
