Northern Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga says Government is confident that oil will soon be discovered in the Province.
Mr Kamanga said the oil discovery will completely transform the Northern Province to the economic engine of Zambia.
Mr Kamanga said this when he met Dr Sixtus Mulenga of Taro Oil who briefed him me on progress being made in the oil exploitation project in Nsumbu area of the Northern Province.
“The Northern Province certainly has huge untapped economic potential which we believe with the heightened interest by both foreign and local investors will arouse this sleeping giant,” Mr Kamanga said.
He said the forthcoming Northern Province Investment Expo is set to open a window into the vast Investment opportunities in Agriculture, Tourism, Energy and Marine Transport through Zambia’s only inland port Mpulungu Harbor which provides a Gateway into the Great Lakes Region.
Even if oil will be found, all the benefits will go to foreigners and a few selfish politicians. I pray that no oil is found until we have leaders who care about the wellbeing of the people. Otherwise it will just be a catalyst for civil strife.

Journeyman: I disagree. I want oil to be found now if it is there. But it would be at least another ten years or so for anything to begin happening. It is not a matter of prayer that the oil be found because prayer has nothing to do with it.

A geologist told me that the a sample of the oil from Northern and Western Province did not yield good results. The samples came back as used oil. The oil cannot be processed any further.

Even if they discover oil, the selfish few privileged people will be bribed and undervalue our natural resources and sell to foreign investors like they bribed HH in the sale of the mines in copperbelt. That was the mark of HH’s wealth. This oil exploration would have waited for this generation of politicians to retire first. We shall take over and make things straight in a modern way.
