1, 123 children have been victims of pornography in Zambia-Mushimba

Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba says 1, 123 children have been victims of pornography while 312 cases of online sexual exploitation have been recorded from January to August this year, 2018.

Mr. Mushimba noted that concerted efforts are required in order to curb online abuse and sexual exploitation of children via online.

He stated that government priorities and places protection of children high on the agenda.

Mr. Mushimba said his Ministry is putting measures in place aimed at mitigating online child abuse and creating a safe secure online environment for children.

The Minister said this during the launch of the national online sexual reporting portal in a speech read for him by Assistant Director of Communications, Khumbuzo Nkunika.

And speaking earlier at the same function, ZICTA Acting Director General, Chisanga Mulenga said the national reporting portal is an online platform where complaints against online child abuse and violence will be reported in Zambia.

He revealed that the portal has been established in partnership with ZICTA and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).

Mr. Mulenga further disclosed that Zambia becomes the 24th nation to join the IWF global reporting network and the sixth country to benefit from a portal funded by the global fund to end violence against children.
