Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo is being investigated by the Police in connection with the death of Harry Chanda who was killed in Livingstone on the 25th of February, 2013 during election campaigns.Zambian Police spokesperson Esther Katongo says Mr. Nkombo has since been warned and cautioned for manslaughter.
It was alleged in 2013 that drunk PF cadres drove to the UPND camp in Mosi-o-Tunya area and started throwing stones and other weapons at the UPND campaign center at the time the UPND team were having their meals resulting in a confrontation.An alleged clash between PF and UPND cadres ensued which led to the death of one PF cadre Harry chanda on the night of Monday February 25.
However after weeks of of imprisonmment in March 2013 Mazabuka Central UPND member of parliament Garry Nkombo and seven others who were facing a murder charge walked to freedom after the Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito discontinued the case against them.
A PF cadre Henry Harry Lungu 26, unemployed of B2 30 Libuyu compound in Livingstone was instead formerly charged with the murder of Harrison Chanda.
In a statement made available to Q-News Ms. Katongo has disclosed that this follows continued investigations in which the Police has been linking people who could have participated in the murder.
Ms. Katongo states that the Mazabuka lawmaker was therefore summoned today the 17th of September at Woodlands Police station for questioning and after which he was warned and cautioned.
She says in this case, one person identified as Henry Lungu of Libuyu, Livingstone was initially arrested and jointly charged with other unknown persons and later convicted for manslaughter on the 09th of March 2017.
Ms. Katongo said that the offense of manslaughter is contrary to section 199 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and Lungu is currently serving a six year sentence with hard labour.
She says investigations into this matter have continued.

I strongly suspect that Hecky Hecky No! was truly hurt by Nkombo’s resignation as Whip and for revenge sent word to the police that actually Mr Nkombo was the murderer. ZP police are lazy and will never, ever open a case especially one where someone has already been convicted of unless they have a “credible” tipster.

I seem to agree with Mushota. Further,the whole issue is highly political. The strategy by PF is to isolate HH and hand-over the UPND to a weak President should HH be found with a case to answer his eminent case of contempt. In the absence of HH, the PF knows, eventually Garry Nkombo would take over the Presidency of the UPND. The PF wants to further handover the UPND to a Northerner or Easterner. This case is going nowhere. Reading from what this police officer is saying, it is not making sense. Criminal cases are the most difficult cases to prove. The evidence adduced must be direct and I wonder how that evidence will come. Any way I wish the police the best if not the worst embarrassment.
This issue you are seeing or hearing is about the sell of ZESCO and other cases that Nkombo is championing. PF knows that Nkombo has a strong case against Lungu on the Impeachment Case. With the new revelations on Zambia being in serious trouble and likelihood of being lost to China due to Lungu’s recklessness and utter ignorance and poor management coupled with corruption, Lungu wants to divert attention and destabilize the opposition for his benefit.
