Veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga has said that the delay by President Edgar Lungu and opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to engage in dialogue shows levels of immaturity from both leaders.
Dr. Mwaanga said that he found it it unfortunate that President Lungu and Mr. Hichilema have never met in person to talk about anything since the Commonwealth initiated the dialogue process between them.
In an interview by telephone with QTV News Dr. Mwaanga stated that it was important that, as Zambians the two leaders are seen to be talking to each other.
Dr. Mwaanga thought that having earlier agreed that Church mother bodies lead the dialogue, after the ground work laid down by the Commonwealth, the dialogue process should have started by now.
Dr. Mwaanga wondered what the problem was and who was holding the dialogue process from taking place.
Dr. Mwaanga also said the he believes that holding of this dialogue process is an urgent matter that needs to be undertaken immediately in order that ground work is prepared for 2021 by ensuring that outstanding issues such as constitutional reforms are ironed out ahead of this year.
Dr. Mwaanga noted that there was need for Zambia to reach a point where people of different political affiliations and persuasions do not treat each other as enemies.
Dr. Mwaanga said that he did not think that people in the Country should treat other as enemies because, in his view, politics is not war.
It is interesting that the author ends the article without a full stop. It is as if he/she was expecting VJ to be honest and say “…rather, It is about fattening one’s own pockets at the expense of the tax payer”.

Mine is not the dialogue of these two, mine is yesterday when I was on great north road heading to Kitwe, a military convoy sweeping us out of the road on the opposite lane when there were completely no vehicles on their lane. This is unacceptable and must stop immediately, we are in peace period and there is no need to inconvenience motorists who pay tax. I stay in the developed world myself and we don’t see such jokes. The moribund RATSA must stop these chaps from these psychological acts, and please start sending them to war zones so that they can start to learn how enemy fire sounds.
This dialogue is nonsensical to say the least and being used by the PF to sway people’s attention whenever more critical things need to be tackled. It is always a safe bet for them. I have always maintained that Lungu got himself out of a sticky and embarrassing situation by going the dialogue route. Unfortunately the UPND have also bought into this trap … If I was the UPND I would pull out of this dialogue and just pursue for the reforms which are at the center of this via other means. UPND is also being lazy … Do they think the PF wants these reforms ? It’s all a nonsensical circus
@1.3 Military vehicles carry different items, at time explosives hence that escort. If you live in a developed country as you claim you will know that any vehicle is supposed to park, irrespective of the direction you are heading to once you came across a vehicle with siren, blue or red emergency lights.

The role of the opposition is checks and balances – do you need dialogue for HH to advise government? HH can make an appointment with ECL anytime and go to State House to meet ECL – but he is too proud for that because he thinks he is superior to ECL.

I would like to concur with the post regarding the inconvenience caused by military and police vehicles on our roads. They drive carelessly with little regard to the safety of other motorists. We recently recorded accidents caused by emergency vehicles because of this same carelessness. They need to be reminded that safety for all road users is paramount and not just for that single client/VIP that they are transporting.
The best thing upnd can do is to disband the party so that the tribal tag is removed.

Where two parties are involved, criteria applied for the purpose must then identify the point of blame and the degree of blame. To that extent, one side must shoulder the ethical responsibility as opposed to the moral responsibility. The moral responsibility could fall on Government. But from an ethical point of view, a Government must provide leadership in accordance with best practices of Good Governance, Rule of Law and Respect of Human Rights. The opposition political party needs to show a spirit of willingness to promote peace and tranquility as understood by the national security officials. In short, the role of CIPD is as Government stated it. A Government has a duty to remain neutral and that neutrality passes via CIPD. The Church is perceived as a non political player.

He is the first one who stopped dealing with madam Scotland, had he stuck to the original agreement, I am sure there would have been some progress by now. Instead, the call to involve ZCID to lead the dialogue was either a bad decision or an intentional move so they can play the game they are playing now. ECL doesn’t want to change anything, the system is in favor and he is comfortable, he doesn’t need to change anything. Unfortunately, the opposition does not understand this. Instead of being proactive and moving this discussion forward to make the necessary constitutional changes, before the next elections, they are busy whining.
