President Edgar Lungu this morning met the China International Water and Electric Cooperation delegation that intends to invest into the construction of Batoka and Kalungwishi hydro power stations.

The delegation met President Lungu at state house today to express their interest to invest in the two hydro power stations.

ZANIS reports that Company general manager (1a)Lui Zengxue said his company would like to build the power station on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis with the Zambian government if the tender is accepted.

Mr. Zengxue said his company is willing to work with the Zambian government in the energy sector to implement hypo power project, solar and wind energy projects.

And speaking to journalists after the meeting, Minister of Energy (1b) Matthew Nkhuwa said his Ministry has received about 15 letters from bidders who have expressed interest to build Kalungwishi and Batoka hydro power stations.

Mr. Nkhuwa said the successful bidder will be picked and announced once the process is done.
He said government is undertaking a transparent selection process by allowing all interested investors to tender for the projects.

The minister disclosed that the successful bidder will only be picked once the feasibility studies have been conducted by the World Bank.

He said the World Bank is currently conducting feasibility studies to evaluate the cost of the project but stated that the project may gooble in access of US$4.5 billion.

  1. You have a conscious decision to make – as to whether to give them such contracts. Yet you say they are ‘cockroaches’ that can’t be avoided.

Let the bitter gnash their teeth.

    • @Ndobo my friend please refrain from calling Chinese that.
Edgar need apologize to PF’s donors and Chinese for calling them roaches. I think that’s the worse thing he has ever called humans, worse than calling a PF MP as “imbwa ya kalyelye”.

    • @Ndobo my friend please refrain from calling Chinese that.
Edgar need apologize to PF for calling them roaches. Can’t believe what comes out of that man.

  3. how would he know how much the project will cost if they are still evaluating the project.
where did he come up with the $4.5b from. he’s already giving inflated figures

  4. We need a different approach to attracting foreign investment….Lazy Lungu is devoid of ideas in fact never had any ideas in first place. At this rate with his out of touch mindset Zambians will be second class citizens in their own country. This bum should not be allowed to stand in 2021 for the good of the country.

    • @Thorn in %#/@$ – ECL 2021 to do what? He is no different to Miles Sampa the only difference is his advisers protect him from humuliating himself by not exposing him to public speaking.

    • I’m sure your small ‘god’ of UPND has all the bright ideas to make all Zambians first class citizens. Despite chasing off cattle herders from farmland in Namwala your Kaponya (HH) who thinks he’s first class above everyone else, you indoctrinated chap you believe he’s blameless.
You and him are the bum *****s around here cheap cadre. Get off the blog racoon

    • Lazy bum illiterate TONGA tribal hooligan bully son of a TONGA tribal polygmous father who never taught him table manners and toilet training pooping in public HAGAIN needing cynical MUTINTA MENTAL, BoSPakata and UNDER FIVE to change his diapers HAGAIN! The Jealous little boy is UNELECTABLE!

    • They are simply amazed by his folly and stupidity …a fooool who thinks he can develop his country with foreign investors and he is glad to pocket peanuts.

    • The one who is a FO0L is your UPND ‘god’ (HH). He writes secret love letters to the Chinese. He holds secret night meetings with President Lungu while you D0G SHlT cadres are blogging trash on LT.

    • If HH had “secret night meetings with President Lungu”, did Endemically Corrupt Leader had public night meeting with HH?
I must compliment your inbreed !mbecility!!!
You are just another brainless parasite.

    • Lazy bum illiterate TONGA hooligan bully son of an illiterate tribal TONGA polygamist father who never taught him toilet training needing diaper change HAGAI! The good news is that MUTINTA and UNDER FIVE know that their tribal supporters love to poop in diapers and will be there to change them even though the little boy is UNELECTABLE.

  5. Our all weather friends, the Chinese. We can’t develop without their input. Let’s leave in harmony with the builders from the East. ‘Cockroaches’ or not you can’t ignore China’s development footprint in the world.

  6. Investment is good for a country but it needs to be regulated. It does not make sense to be helplessly run down by an instoppable influx of investors from a single nation. European countries are very strict with their Investment laws. They make sure that they maintain full control over their industries and still have the upper hand in all the deals. I doubt if those sitting in our meetings with Chinese investors realise the importance of national heritage.

  7. In Lungu’s own words is it investors or invasive Chinese species? By the year 2026 Lungu’s Zambia will be known as Chinmbia and the local salaula species with no stake in the business will be required to vacate .

  8. The new US policy for Africa which was announced today will definitely affect this Sino-Zambia marriage of convenience. Zambia will face measures due to its indebtedness to China, revealed to be over $10 billion dollars by the US National Security Advisor, John Bolton.

  9. He has the conscious choice of whether to award or not award the Chinese contracts. Yet he says they are ‘cockroaches’ that cannot be got rid of (his words) Wonder what they are thinking about his choice of analogy (considering that many people don’t like cockroaches)

  10. You can now forget complaining, even this corrupt theif is advising you to be ready to be over run by Chinese, he is selling everything …..in the next 5 to 10 years you will have atleast 17 million Zambian citizens of Chinese origin……….

Just start preparing your daughters and grandaugters in ways of how to pleas Chinese men…..

  11. kikikiki. we need Chinese money baane. That was just emphasising the resilience of the Chinese. No big deal. I personally admire those roaches’ hardwork.

    • Bwana, there is a limit to how much a country must borrow another or they effectively own that country, some African countries have realised this and are refusing more chinese loans…..lungu is open to anything. After everything is sold, only unchecked Chinese immigration to Zambia is the last bargaing chip lungu has….

You have to try to stand on your own feet as a country and produce from within ……now These corrupt lazy theives can not do anything on their own…

  12. It’s easy to been seen as productive when there is over a billion people in the ‘nest’. Debt slavery is still slavery and has never been accepted or respected by any race and usury is usury – the same reason Jews have been kicked out of Europe over a hundred and something times. If our President weren’t surrounded by greedy politicians and ‘resilient’ others maybe they could try and be forward thinking which is very easy in today’s open source world. There are plans on the web for free electricity, water systems and hydro power systems, cheap ones too. Zambia needs this because….?

  13. My daughter better stay away from these future Zambia owners coz we’re being sold into slavery by Lungu for sure. Zambia is now a wholly owned subsidiary of China.

  14. The cockroaches have already been awarded the Batoka and Kalungwishi tenders. Out of the fifteen expressions of interest, have you heard any other apart from the roaches go to state house to support their tender? The other fourteen have not even been mentioned. International competitive bidding does not allow interaction between clients and bidders unless all bidders are given the same opportunity at every stage. Of course the minister’s intention transparent internation bidding, but this looks like single sourcing Hon Minister, of course not your fault as there are more intelligent people directing this process.
So is it CIWEC? Correct, done deal!!
Have they donated a few boreholes, mattresses, buses, etc and pieces of chitenge too?

International competitive bidding does not allow interaction between clients and bidders unless all bidders are given the same opportunity at every stage. Of course the minister’s intention on paper is transparent international bidding, but this looks like single sourcing Hon Minister, of course not your fault as there are far more intelligent people directing this process.

  16. That’s the trouble of having a poor man with inferiority complex ascending to Plot 1!
It used to be Muzungu anikonde. Not it’s Impemfu shintemwe sana!
    Roaches spread diseases!

  17. It is done! These roaches have the contract in the bag, they never the head of state empty handed! They have an unfair advantage over other contractors having had audience with the head of state. It is bad practice to allow prospective contractor to visit an employer before submission of his bid. Corruption can not be ruled out. Other contractors should scream collusion if this contractor wins the project.

  18. How can local contractors fairly compete when the roaches have this kind of access to the head of state? This were contract award happens. And you want to blame local professionals for non – participation when you allow roaches opportunities to meet the employer before advertising the project? Two – faced corrupt leader fooling himself!

  19. America has million of Chinese and they have China Town. Allow them to settle here so that we induce synergies in so far as development in concerned. Look at Australia, I don’t Aborigines could have developed their countries without immigrants from England and later Chinese and a mixture of races from Asia. Same applies to America it is developed because of immigrants from around the world including Chinese. Accept it or not Zambians and Africans in general have not reached social, economic and scientific sophistications as our friend from china. South Africa is another example which has been developed by Boer immigrants including Indians and to some extent Chinese who you hate with passion.

  20. We can not avoid the influx of Chinese investment, we just have to pressure the govt to be mindful of debt and enforce labour laws that mean our people are not disadvantaged.
