North-western Chamber of Commerce (NWCC) has awarded Chisenga Chilala, a teacher from Kifubwa primary school in Solwezi, for offering to take care of a baby while the older sibling was learning in class.

Ms. Chilala was given the Chamber’s president award for showing compassion and support towards the empowerment of the girl child through education.

Former NWCC president, Josephine Makondo, who presented the award, said she was pleased with Ms. Chilala’s act of kindness towards her pupil.

Ms. Makondo has since urged members of the public to emulate Ms. Chilala by helping the underprivileged people in the country.

She presented the award during the first ever NWCC annual awards giving gala which was held at Kansanshi hotel at the weekend.

Various companies and individuals in the region were also awarded by the Chamber of Commerce for their outstanding performance in the year 2018.

Mr. Kankasa Kapiji was awarded for being the best entrepreneur of the year 2018 in the region.

Some of the organisations that received awards include Kansanshi mine for the best mining and outstanding corporate company category and Lumwana mine for the best work safety category.

Kansanshi hotel scooped the best hotel in the hospitality category while Shamel restaurant won the best catering services and the best financial institution was given to First National Bank.

  1. This is one of those rare but not unusual Zambian gestures and I just love it! Keep it up Chisenga Zulu Chilala. You are unique in many ways!!

  2. STRICTLY SPEAKING THIS IS POOR JUDGEMENT ON THE PART OF THE TEACHER. WE ALL WANT TO BE AWARDED. BUT ARE WE ALL GOING TO COME FOR WORK WITH CHILDREN STRAPPED ON OUR BACKS? I DONT KNOW WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT BEING HONEST. SHE WAS MORE CONCERNED WITH THE MOTHER OF THAT ONE CHILD BUT NOT ON THE MANY CHILDREN SHE WAS TEACHING WHO WILL LOSE CONCENTRATION. SHE MUST BE PUNISHED AND NOT AWARDED.

  3. There is wisdom in keeping quiet, if one has nothing to contribute to the topic at hand than washing dirt linen in public. It’s always wise to praise those who work very hard under difficult situations than discourage them. Give praise where it’s due not politicking every time.

  4. There is more wisdom in listening than talking.Lets talk becuase we have someting to say and NOT because we want to say somthing .keep it lady.you are even beautful

  5. But I thought u reporters at first told us the mother of the baby had brought it to school. Now you’re saying sibling?
